Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua on Sunday, June 18, announced that he had inked an agreement with Barbados to export computers manufactured in Kenya.
In a statement, the CS said the accord was one of several pacts he had signed with the North American nation touching on several sectors such as Trade, Agriculture, and Labour Migration. He further proclaimed that the two countries had also decided to explore options of sending Kenyan nurses to work in Barbados.
During the week-long visit to the Caribbean nation, the CS explored avenues of incorporating Kenyan Commercial Banks into Barbados’ lucrative banking sector and the opportunities for Kenya Airways to ferry cargo and passengers to the Caribbean nation. Mutua also voiced his support for Kenya’s Ambassador and Special Envoy for Maritime and Blue Economy, Nancy Karigithu, in her bid to be the next Secretary General at the International Maritime Organization.
In recent years, Kenya has been striving to become a digital centre point. As part of this effort, the country held the YouTube Black Voices closing ceremony on June 13th, which was geared toward promoting black artistic endeavours online. Additionally, in March 2022, American tech giant Microsoft opened a Sh3 billion (USD27 million) facility in Nairobi designed to offer Kenyans the opportunity to create technology-based solutions for both local and international markets.
In January 2023, President William Ruto announced the construction of a high-tech project intended to revolutionize the Healthcare, Agriculture, MSMEs, and Financial sectors.
