King Charles III Set to Visit Kenya
King Charles III During Coronation

Reports indicate that  King Charles III  may visit Kenya later this year.

His trip to Kenya will mark his first official visit to the country since his coronation which took place on 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. UK media reports that the King intends to integrate the Commonwealth at the heart of his reign. The royal family is yet to confirm the trip.

The King is also planning to visit France later in the year after his planned trip to the European country failed due to security concerns triggered by then protests against President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension age increase. The King’s visit to Kenya will spark memories of a place once graced by her mother before she acceded to the throne following the death of his father.  Elizabeth II reign began in February 1952 after the death of her George VI. His official visit to Kenya will do more than remind him of the cusp of his mother’s reign, it will also communicate how dearly his reign views the commonwealth.

“It will be a poignant moment. Inevitably it will be a reminder of his young mother at the start of her reign. Now, he is at the start of his, but he has the advantage of experience, too,” reports one of the UK’s channels Express.

King Charles III is keen to protect the common values shared between the Royal Family and the Commonwealth countries. His visit to the African country comes at a time when the UK government has been under sharp objection from Kenya due to land grievances and the struggle Mau-Mau fighters endured during the colonial period.
