Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve, has regained his voice more than three years after he was shot by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Orinda said his voice was restored after undergoing a successful surgery that lasted around eight hours last on March 6th, but he was not able to speak immediately until this week.
“I never thought this day would come but I have finally regained my voice back. I have truly seen God’s works. I prayed before going for the surgery and asked God to stand by my side all through the surgery. And Indeed, he did exactly that,” DJ Evolve told a local publication.
The disc jockey said he still remains in a wheelchair and is practicing how to sit.
Orinda was shot and injured by Owino at B-Club in Kilimani, Nairobi on the night of January 17th, 2020. Following the shooting, he was admitted to Nairobi Hospital for six months where he underwent multiple surgeries before he was discharged to recuperate at home.
In 2021, the trial court granted an application by Orinda to withdraw the attempted murder charge against Owino. The MP is facing a second charge of disorderly behavior while carrying.
Orinda withdrew the matter following an out-of-court settlement where the two-time MP agreed to buy him an apartment, a customized car designed for use by a person with a disability, and pay his medical bills and other expenses.
In addition, Owino agreed to set up a music academy for DJ Evolve when he recovers and use it to generate an income.
