World Bank Pledges Support for the Hustler Fund

The World Bank has pledged to support the Hustler Fund in order to lift Kenya’s most vulnerable group.

The international lender made the pledge during a consultative meeting between President Ruto and a World Bank delegation led by the Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa Victoria Kwakwa at State House, Nairobi. On Tuesday.

Kwakwa said the bank will offer the Hustler Fund technical and financial support.

“The bank associates strongly with programs and initiative that empower the poor and most vulnerable. We will bring to the table ways to provide a safety net for these individuals” she said.

She further reiterated the bank’s support for the country’s programs against climate change.

On his part, President Ruto commended the World Bank’s decision to recognize the Hustler Fund in cushioning the vulnerable, saying the technical assistance will go a long way in making the fund more inclusive and transformative to millions of ordinary Kenyans.

Ruto also acknowledged the role the World Bank has played in the development of the country and called on the lender to scale up investment in programs to increase agricultural productivity, saying the government was working on the construction of dams and fertilizer subsidies among others.

“We are looking forward to your support in our development agenda,” he said.

Husoras have invaded Mau forest and a busy cutting trees all over Kenya.

So the WB is “supporting” or is it going to do what it does best aka sending Economic Hitmen to freeze the country?

  4. Bringing back the hitmen…
Bringing back the hitmen that Kibaki was so against. When you are not intelligent enough to figure out a homegrown solution, you hire WB consultants to freeze your country and hold it, hostage, with hefty loans. A country with so many intelligent folks can’t create its own think tank that can figure out a way to advise the govt and find homegrown solutions? With the many diasporans in all sectors, we must find a mzungu to do it for us. Shame on THIS USELESS govt. RIP Emilio Kibaki, if only we could have clowned you.

    • Kibaki and Ruto times are so…
Kibaki and Ruto times are so different. WB IMF EU had frozen loans for Moi and economy was at ground zero. Kibaki had so much goodwill and ground to gain. Uhuru squandered a great foundation laid by Kibaki with massive borrowing and stealing on projects which didn’t cause economic or social upward mobility. Ruto is left holding a huge debt bag with little legroom except cutbacks and strict borrowing.
Yes we have highly educated folks in govt and private sector more than in history but development happens when individual persons and micro biz invent stuff and come up with efficient ways of doing stuff. China and Asia kids make little stuff like phone, stereo that Africa imports

    For goodness…

    @ Simamaimara:

For goodness sake! Samoei was a vice president for 10 years and was a co-president with Uhuru Ngina Kamau.
Unfortunately, Samoei spent his time campaigning, attending foreign based churches in Kenya, studied and finished his PhD while ignoring his immediate duties as a vice president of the nation. He loitered all over the country for five years and now, he has the audacity to criticize the same government that he ignored.

Now, he is mixing politics with religion – what a dangerous move! He should make up his mind and decide whether he wants to spread his fake foreign religion as a “pastor,” or be a fulltime president of Kenya.

Samoei has set a very bad example as a leader by constantly campaigning as he did during the last 10 years. He can’t complain when Raila emulates his bad example of constantly campaigning,

I have to remind Mwakilishi readers and the people of Kenya that, I never supported Raila or Samoei for the Kenyan presidency. Both had and still have plenty of skeletons rattling in their closets. Had Wafula Arap Chebukati done his job as required (Chapter 6 of the New Kenyan Constitution), both would have been disqualified as presidential candidates during the past elections.
