Spare Us the Hypocrisy, Journalist Ciku Muiruri Tells Politicians Mourning Catherine Kasavuli

Media personality Ciku Muiruri has slammed politicians paying tribute to the late veteran TV newscaster Catherine Kasavuli.

Through Twitter on Saturday, Muiruri accused the political leaders of being hypocrites, claiming they ignored her appeal for help when she was hospitalized.

“All these politicians and their wives falling over themselves to pay tributes to Catherine Kasavuli have been ignoring her fundraising efforts for months,” Muiruri tweeted.

“They knew she was sick. Spare us the hypocrisy and help her family offset the Sh4 million bill, if you loved her so much.”

On Friday, Kasavuli’s family appealed to Kenyans to help them raise funds to settle Sh4 million medical bills accrued during her treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital and The Nairobi Hospital.

“At the time of her passing away, she had accrued a cumulative hospital bill of Sh4 million, being bills at both Kenyatta National Hospital and The Nairobi Hospital. We anticipate further bills at the funeral home and costs of interment which, which cost we can’t estimate now,” her son Martin Kasavuli said.

“It is with this mind that I write for your assistance in galvanizing her colleagues in the media fraternity, and the public to assist me clear the medical bills and give the late ‘Queen of Television’ a befitting farewell.”

Well-wishers can send their contributions via MPesa Paybill number 8089700, account number Catherine Kasavuli.

Kasavuli, 60, died Thursday night while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where she was admitted on October 26th after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

I was born in Kenya but I do not understand the country’s healthcare system. However, I do hear of NHIF. Isn’t this insurance supposed to meet medical needs for all Kenyans or what?
