UDA Party Distances Itself from MP Salah Yakub's Proposal to Scrap the Two-term Presidential Limit

President Ruto-led UDA party has distanced itself from the proposal by Fafi MP Salah Yakub to scrap the two-term presidential limit and replace it with an age limit of 75 years.

Through social media, the party clarified that there was no plan to remove the presidential limit, terming Yakub’s proposal as “a product of a fertile imagination by the legislator.”

“Remarks by Fafi MP Salah Yakub that there are plans to extend term limits for the president are a product of a fertile imagination by the legislator. UDA distances itself from the utterances by the MP. The Party has not been part of discussions in regard to term limits. The party is busy implementing The Plan and will not be part of sideshows,” UDA wrote on Twitter.

Yakub had earlier claimed that he and other UDA MPs were working on a constitutional amendment Bill to scrap the two-term presidential limit, arguing that it denies performing leaders an opportunity to further develop the country.

“I, together with some of my fellow MPs, are planning to push a Bill in Parliament that contests the two terms of serving as president,” he said.

“We also want that no one should contest for the presidency once they are 75 years old. The terms of the presidency should not be limited to two terms, three terms, or even four. If the president is doing a good job he should extend his term,” he added.

The UDA MP said the country cannot afford to repeat the same mistake it did in the past when it allowed former President Mwai Kibaki to leave office yet he was a progressive leader.

“He left office without accomplishing all his programs because of the Constitution which allowed him to serve for only two terms,” he said.

Such a bill would give the current president, 55, leeway for re-election for up to three terms in 2027, 2032, and 2037.

I don’t get what people see in William Ruto .
The man is full of double speak and propaganda. His actions betray him all the time.

  2. Why”WaKenya”,”SISI”,”NYINYI”…
Why”WaKenya”,”SISI”,”NYINYI”,”WE”,”US””,OUR” etc instead of “I”?I have even heard prostitutes, adulterers, murderers, robbers etc crooks purporting to be Mt.Kenya spokes(wo)men and others flying all the way to Nairobi-ati to vote on my behalf.SPEAK FOR YOURSELF.

  3. This guy is as crazy and as…
This guy is as crazy and as loony as those who sent him to test waters. You say we made a mistake to let the progressive Kibaki go home yet, using your age limit of 75 years, Kibaki would not have finished his first term in office. So far, the UDA government has been very disappointing and ought to be impeached before the end of your first term in office.

  4. With the just concluded…
With the just concluded elections, Kenyans woke up to reality. They elected this government with full knowledge of their God given rights.
Times have changed. Kenyans are taking back their cultures and beliefs.
Should this government attempt to assert itself or keep corruption going it will end up collapsing under its own weight.
Let the government read the signs of the times. Political laws may not be of any use in Kenya as Kenyans start governing themselves using God’s law.
Taking more power than mandated by the Kenyans, will hasten the changes.
Let us keep watching this space.
Kenyans are already tired of politics.
This government should just work to fulfill its promises. If it fails to do so, in 5 years Kenya will be under God’s law and not man’s law.
    ” Ee mungu nguvu yetu”

  5. A bunch of BS. Most of these…
A bunch of BS. Most of these folk need to go back to school and pay attention to the teacher. No one should serve more than two terms as a president. We don’t have kings and queens in Kenya. So much bullshit coming out these bunch of folks. Please think before you open your mouth. The the one want to defund the universities while the politicians allocate themselves billions in public money. Any one with common sense would realize the importance of affordable higher education. This is the incubator for the next generations of doctors, engineers, mathematicians, scientists, etc., etc. There is nothing wrong with government funding the higher education and making it affordable for everyone not just the millionaire’s kids. Education for all.

  7. What this fellow is…
What this fellow is suggesting is not democracy. The people of Kenya demanded multiparty system after seeing the evils of autocracy.Folks this political neophyte is trudging a treacherous path, and that is going backwards, politically speaking.Read @Ndugu Imara Daima’s comments…
We chose democracy, and for democracy to thrive we have to follow its tenets.None of which is more important than a healthy competition among candidates, and term limits to encourage new politicians with new ideas to thrive, while discouraging those with destructive policies to continue the destruction.Viva la democracia!
