The new parliament tower which has been under construction for about 10 years is finally ready for occupation.
MPs will be allocated 280 offices of the 331 available on the 28-storey building from November 7th, according to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
“In order to ensure that members occupy the offices immediately they are handed over, I have directed the clerk to prepare the schedule of allocation of the 280 offices being equitable share of the apportioned to the National Assembly, regrettably around 63 members of this house will not be accommodated in the new office block,” Wetang’ula said on Tuesday.
Wetang’ula said priority will be given to the leadership of the House starting with the deputy whips, chairperson of the committees and vice chairs, members of the speaker’s panel, and members serving more than one term.
“The election of committee chairpersons and the vice chairpersons will be concluded by Friday, (November 4) and there I have directed the clerk to carry out the allocation next week from Monday 7th November 2022.”
First-time MPs will be allocated the offices by balloting on November 9th while those who miss out on the new offices will get space in other existing parliament buildings.
The office block, constructed by China Jiangxi Construction Company at a cost of approximately Sh8 billion, consists of 331 office buildings, 26 committee rooms, and a parking space. Standing at 125 meters, it ranks among the tallest buildings in the capital.
The complex stands between Continental House and County Hall, next to Parliament buildings, and was developed by the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

Hmmm thinking of a good start for Kenya? What if they were all in there and an artificial quake happened? Kenya will save money and reduce thievery by 50%.

Hope Wetangula has the building swept for bugs. Otherwise Xi will be hearing all their corrupt conversations.
CORRUPTION HQs constructed…
CORRUPTION HQs constructed at a cost of shs 8b.in a poor country where 6m.people are facing hunger.I hope Al Shabaab will choose that venue to celebrate the 10th anniversary of WESTGATE attack in September 2023 with the present/past MPs.
One of the main problem why…
One of the main problem why africans are trudging along this road of progress and development with little success in making a dent in the welfare of their citizens is poor spending culture. In short priorities are screwed up.
Take this 8 billions spent on a building that will not given any added value to the country.Wouldn’t this sum have done alot of good in upgrading the welfare of people in Mathare slums? And if you are not for slum “gentrification” how about that kind of money going to hospitals? We read alot about patients getting help up in hospitals till they pay an outstanding balance…
My point here is did Mpigs really need this building? To me it serves only afew individuals who love flashy lifestyle. Let’s uplift the standard of living for every mwananchi first, and I dont see this 8 billion going toward that end.Am I missing something?
Comrade Maxiley,
This is…
Comrade Maxiley,
This is systematic manipulation of the masses, keeping them where they belong. Do you recall this one priest who wanted to build affordable housing in mathare and Mois government stopped it? He wasn’t asking the government for a penny, but yet, they refused him.
Spot-on @ comrade Kara…
Spot-on @ comrade Kara kanini.Yeap it is easier to control the impoverished.Keep their mind on surviving, and they wont think of toppling you.Imagine if slaves had been treated humanely or with equal rights as the masters.Well a part from having alot of chotara kids around, they would have been some of the bravest smartest, and productive human beings.
Maxiley, I think over all…
Maxiley, I think over all this will go along way in saving so much money lost through these mps renting offices elsewhere.
Well considering the current situation in the country, one would have thought otherwise if the building was to constructed today.
@ Asista, we can play with…
@ Asista, we can play with numbers and justify the spending every which way.But having an expensive office when you are hardly using it is a inefficient way of using public funds.
My question is simply this, was that the best use of 8billion shillings the mpigs could come up with?Mindful that is this tax payers money. Money that should be for”larger” public good.
This spending is like building a state of the art office for the principal of a school, but leaving the library in a sorry state.Like I said, let look at our priorities. We would all love to drive “Rolls royces” but can we afford them?
@ Asista, by the way,saving…
@ Asista, by the way, saving money is fine. We are talking of how best to spend 8 billion… we save.
Investing in politics…
Investing in politics. Democracy is so expected without useful results. China without democracy is almost super power
Why construct a building…
Why construct a building that cannot accommodate all members of the parliament? This is what you call half shiiit job. Nothing makes sense in Kenya.
