Murkomen, Duale, and Alice Wahome Formally Resign from Parliament

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome have formally resigned from Parliament.

The three tendered their resignations on Wednesday afternoon, hours after the National Assembly approved their nomination to President Ruto’s Cabinet alongside 22 other nominees.

Murkomen will be in charge of the Transport, Public Works and Housing Ministry while Duale and Wahome will head the Defense and Water Sanitation and Irrigation dockets respectively.

The three successfully defended their seats in the August 9th general election under President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Murkomen, who formerly served as Senate Majority leader, has represented Elgeyo-Marakwet in the Senate since 2013. Duale, who served as National Assembly Majority Leader from 2013 to 2020, has been an MP since 2007, while Wahome has served in the National Assembly for two terms.

The three seats will be declared vacant ahead of by-elections to replace the three leaders.

During their vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, Duale, Murkomen and Wahome put their net worth at Sh950 million, Sh550 million, and Sh218 million respectively.
