Kalonzo Rejected an Offer to Join My Gov’t, President Ruto Says

President Ruto has said he is willing to work with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and has made attempts to make him part of his government.

Speaking during a church service at African Inland Church in Kitui on Sunday, Ruto said Musyoka turned down his offer to join the government and insisted on remaining in the opposition.

“You have talked about the issues of my brother Stephen (Kalonzo Musyoka). He is my elder brother and whenever he is ready to work with me, I am ready to work with him. I told you this when I was here…if you remember. I told you if God makes it possible for me to form government, I will look for my brother Stephen and involve him in running government,” said Ruto.

“I want you to know that I have looked for Stephen, sat down with him…told him ‘here is the government, let us work together’ he told me he wants to try opposition first. So, let him try opposition first then we see where he gets, then we can talk later. There is no problem, even opposition is work, it also helps us to move Kenya forward,” he added.

Ruto was responding to a section of Ukambani leaders led by Kitui Governor Julius Malombe and his Machakos counterpart Wavinya Ndeti, who urged him to accommodate Musyoka in his government.

On Saturday, Musyoka announced that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition will unveil a shadow cabinet to hold Ruto’s administration accountable for proper use of public resources.

Musyoka, who recently accused Ruto of dictatorship, said the Cabinet will be named once Azimio party leader Raila Odinga returns to the country from his foreign trip in India. He indicated that the team will have a budget to help them carry out their duties.
