Cabinet Secretary Nominee Alice Wahome Reveals She is Worth Sh218 Million, Denies Being Hot Tempered

Cabinet Secretary nominee for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Alice Wahome has disclosed she has a net worth of Sh218 million, which she accumulated from investments in properties with her husband.

Speaking on Monday when she appeared before the National Assembly Appointments Committee for vetting, Wahome said she earned a salary as a member of parliament until September this year and a monthly allowance of Sh100,000 from the law firm she co-owns with her daughter.

“My first job was as a state counsel at the office of the Attorney General, where I practiced for about two years. I later joined Makhecha & Co and thereafter setup A M Wahome & Co Advocates,” she explained.

“My net worth is Sh218 million and this is value of properties between myself and my husband. They are family assets…Until September I have earned a salary from parliament and been in and off practicing though very low because as a member of parliament you have very little time in your hands.”

She added: “I get a fuel allowance of about Sh100,000 from my firm and also from these properties, which are in my name, I get about Sh500,000 a month but at the moment they do not have tenants since Covid and therefore I have no income coming from that end. I’m relying on the little Sh100,000 and the MP salary.”

The former Kandara MP also dismissed claims that she is temperamental, stating that she has always had control of her emotions. The question was in relation to a case where she was captured roughing up an IEBC official during the 2017 elections.

“I have the advantage of working for the last 40 years and I don’t recall any other incident. I have been a politician for 20 years and I have not been involved in any other altercation. I do not think that I am a violent person, I’m able to manage my temper.”
