MCAs Protest Move to Shut Down 43 Nightclubs in Nairobi over Noise Pollution

A section of Nairobi MCAs has protested the move to close 43 nightclubs in the city over noise pollution.

Led by Kitisuru MCA Alvin Palapala, the Ward Representatives have termed the move by the Nairobi Liquor Licensing Board as oppressive, saying it will deny hundreds of people their source of income.

They further argued that the county collects millions of shillings from the entertainment joints and their closure will affect revenue collection.

“This move is worrying. These bars have employed very many people and closing them down will render many people jobless. As elected leaders, we had made a pledge to these business communities that we shall create a business-friendly environment and closing them does not look good for the county,” said Palapala.

The MCAs have proposed the formulation of strict regulations to curb the noise menace without closing down the businesses.

“We should instead come up with regulations that put measures to ensure that bars don’t have the noise that is currently causing the menace.”

This week, the liquor board commenced an operation that will see 43 bars located within residential areas in Nairobi shut down for playing loud music.

I would propose the liquor licensing board to close all breweries including EABL instead of bars whose owners declined to bribe it’s members. It is senseless to close legal establishments but leave CHANGAA dens selling Raila’s methanol as usual.Closing bars will only increase the drinking of Changaa and other killer brews in those areas with negative results to the society as NO ONE CAN STOP ME FROM ENJOYING MY LIFE,NGITI ICI.Na hutu tumutu twenye wivu tukimie kama hatuna pesa ya mvinyo.

Refusal to close noisy bars n pubs is going against the rights of kileleshwa residents. Those living outside kileleshwa have no business to comment on the issue .
