Raila to Skip Ruto's Inauguration

ODM leader Raila Odinga says he will not attend President-elect William Ruto’s inauguration on Tuesday.

While acknowledging that Ruto personally invited him to the ceremony, Odinga said he will be available as he is out of the country and that he still holds “serious concerns” about the August 9th presidential election.

“This evening, I received a letter and a telephone call from H.E Dr. William Ruto inviting me to his inauguration set for tomorrow, September 13, 2022. I regret however that I will not be available for the inauguration because I am out of the country and I also have other serious concerns,” Odinga said in a statement.

He insisted that the electoral commission did not conduct a free and fair election and that he believes the Supreme Court ruling validating Ruto’s victory was not based on facts and the law, even though he accepted it.

“For these reasons, the outcome of the election remains indeterminate,” said Odinga.

Odinga, who gave his fifth shot at the presidency in this year’s election, promised to announce his next move once he returns to the country.

“Once I return to the country, I will, jointly with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders, announce our next steps as we seek to deepen and strengthen our democracy. We can only do so if we reform and transform the key institutions that are charged with protecting and advancing our democracy.”

Sounds like a two year old throwing temper tantrums.Come on RAO,out of respect for a president-elect extending an olive branch, you should accept the invitation. However you may be excused if you had prior engagements that cannot wait.Like an emergency medical attention in Germany…
If you plan to run in 5 year’s time, this is a PR moment that you should take advantage of.There are some Kenyans who might just vote for you by taking he high road…
I know you are still disappointed that you lost, but please dont blame the supreme court. You had your due process, and lost. I know losing 5 times is unbearable, but such is the nature of under performing. Ruto out performed you.Again I mention that he was not my preferred candidate, but I accept that the elections were fair, and any irregularities were minor, and normal.Regardless of your feeling about Dr.Ruto, he campaigned, and won.He is our president. Its time to give him a change to prove himself,or fulfill his campaign promises.Five years is not far.A bad report card might just send him to his chicken farm, and give you another chance.Just a chance.

  2. Raila Odinga, I lost you…
Raila Odinga, I lost you after handshake.
You got too comfortable, you forgot about all the fights we had together. You forgot about what democracy means. You got played by the media and goons. You should have attended the Inauguration, but your ego won’t allow it. Your history would have been perfectly set in Kenyan history. But you’re making decisions based on emotions.
Raila, I have alot of respect for you, please do dilute this.

  4. This mindset, of rejecting…
This mindset, of rejecting election results leading to chaos ,is what has ruined Raila’s chances of becoming president. The masses value peace and stability very much therefore they reward those politicians that support it with victory and punish those that don’t support it with defeat. People have long memories and they don’t forget 1982, 2007 and even 2017. This is the key lesson that Raila’s supporters should take away from Raila’s political failures.

  5. Attend Ruto’s inauguration…
Attend Ruto’s inauguration. Do not chicken out. Work with the new government with good faith. Kuvunjika kwa mwiko sio ndiyo mwisho wa kupika. Analyse what went wrong in your campaign and regroup for 2027. Some of your generals dropped the ball. You were overexcited with a lot of confidence. Remember every vote counts. Finally, avoid handshakes and show voters you are able to stand alone. You will win in landslide.

Sounds like he is laying the ground for swearing himself in again… even though the election is still undecided in his head. Amazing that this guy and his alter-ego (you know 45) did not come from the same womb! Bigly similar…

  7. When you read most of these…
When you read most of these comments, you might be forced to believe ur new president won by a landslide. It was just a mere 1% difference, which equates to just a mere luck. This is one of those incidents that is like a lightening strike.
So, these inexperienced minds, watch what you wishing for, next time it will be you on the losing side.
