Nairobi governor-elect Johnson Sakaja and his main competitor in the August 9th general election Polycarp Igathe have wowed Kenyans after meeting up for coffee on Thursday.
Sakaja had promised to sit down with Igathe after he conceded defeat following the announcement of the Nairobi gubernatorial race final results on August 14th.
Through social media, Sakaja shared photos of himself and Igathe engaging in talks and sharing light moments at an undisclosed location.
“Wonderful conversation and laughs with my brother @polyigathe this afternoon. Amesema ni siasa safi,” Sakaja wrote on Twitter.
Vying on a UDA party ticket, Sakaja was declared the winner of the city’s gubernatorial race after garnering 699,392 votes, edging Igathe of the ruling Jubilee Party who managed 573,516 votes. Independent Candidate Anne Kagure came in third with 10,086 votes
Igathe took to social media to concede defeat, saying he accepts the decision of the people of Nairobi and congratulated Sakaja on his election.
“I accept the decision of the people of Nairobi and thank all our supporters. The Governor of Nairobi is His Excellency Johnson Sakaja. Congratulations! God bless Kenya,” he tweeted.
Sakaja responded by inviting him to coffee for putting up a good fight in the contest.
