President Kenyatta’s former aide-de-camp (ADC) Lieutenant-General Peter Mbogo Njiru has been sworn in as the new commander of the Kenya Army.
Mbogo, who replaces Lt. Gen Walter Koipaton following his retirement, was sworn in during a ceremony presided over by the Head of Public Service Dr. Joseph Kinyua at State House, Nakuru, on Wednesday.
President Kenyatta witnessed the swearing-in ceremony attended by senior Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officials led by Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Robert Kibochi, Kenya Air Force Commander Maj. General John Omenda, Kenya Navy Commander Maj. General Jimson Mutai as well as Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Defence) and Ukur Yatani (National Treasury).
Gen. Mbogo was among 22 senior military officers promoted and appointed to new positions in the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force by President Kenyatta last week. The changes in the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) came ahead of Kenyatta’s retirement later this year.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, President Uhuru commended the newly promoted KDF senior officers and wished them success in their new positions.
The ceremony also acted as the investiture ceremony for the recently-promoted Brigadier Zipporah Kalondu Kioko and Brigadier Alice Muringo Mate.
