ODM leader Raila Odinga and his entourage have arrived in the United States ahead of his week-long tour.
Odinga, who is the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate, landed in Washington, DC, on Saturday and was received by Kenya’s ambassador to the US Lazarus Amayo.
Raila’s presidential campaign secretariat spokesperson Prof. Makau Mutua shared on Facebook photos of the ODM leader and his delegation at an undisclosed location in the US capital.
Odinga left the country for the US on Friday and is expected to hold a series of meetings with senior American government officials and senior members of the US Congress in Washington, DC. He is also scheduled to meet business leaders and Kenyans living and working in the US.
Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency, will use the tour to explain his State House bid and his agenda for the country to the international community.
He is accompanied by Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua, governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), James Ongwae (Kisii), former Aldai MP Sally Kosgey, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, among others.
The trip comes weeks after Raila visited the United Kingdom, where he highlighted his agenda for Kenya and the reforms he will deliver should he ascend to power later this year.
During the UK trip, Odinga also met the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and gave an address at the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
