US Billionaire Businessman Fisk Johnson Pays a Courtesy Call on President Uhuru

President Kenyatta on Wednesday held talks with US billionaire businessman Dr. Fisk Johnson.

Fisk, Chairman and CEO of American multinational SC Johnson and Sons Company, paid President Kenyatta a courtesy call at State House, Nairobi.

During the meeting, Fisk expressed his company’s interest in partnering with Kenya in the fight against malaria and its intent to resume its purchasing of Kenya’s pyrethrum for the production of chemicals to boost the war against the disease.

The Wisconsin-based multinational, which manufactures household cleaning supplies and consumer chemicals, has been one of the biggest buyers of Kenya’s pyrethrum.

On his part, President Uhuru welcomed SC Johnson and Sons’ partnership, terming it a boost in the fight against malaria in Kenya and across the region.

He also noted that the purchase of Kenya’s pyrethrum by the company will provide a ready market for farmers and increase their income.

President Kenyatta’s administration has been keen on the revival of pyrethrum production in the country and last year released Sh40 million for the purchase of pyrethrum seedlings for farmers to step up production of the crop in 18 high potential counties, including Nakuru and Nyandarua.

The government also brought Nakuru-based Pyrethrum Processing Company back to operation.

Thanks for this link Ngafu Munene. It sheds a lot of light on the genesis of land issues in Kenya. Sometimes back i read an article that said Kenyatta wanted to create a special elite group who would keep the working poor in check. I was doubtful but now I see he did exactly that. Seems that he used government money to enrich himself and also to create the elite group whose offspring are the richest people in modern Kenya.
