Chinese Nationals Arrested at JKIA Trying to Illegally Export 5,703kgs of Live Crabs

Police in Nairobi are detaining two Chinese nationals who attempted to illegally export live crabs to China.

The two foreigners were arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday trying to ship 5,703 kilograms of live crabs valued at Sh1.2 million.

The arrest followed a multi-agency operation conducted by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs officers based at JKIA and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

KRA says the suspects did not have valid fish exporting licenses and could not explain the source of the crabs that had been conveniently packed in 282 boxes destined for export to China.

“Upon questioning, a clearing agent from Drenal Enterprises Limited informed the officers that the consignment originated from Kilifi County and was booked for export to China by Weida Investment Limited,” KRA said in a statement.

“The clearing agent presented permit documents from the Kenya Fisheries Services (KFS) that were declared non-authentic by KFS.”

KRA is holding the consignment in custody as it awaits further instructions from KFS.

Agreed the price of the crab is very cheap.I am sure they would have made a massive profit in China since the China man loves crab.
