A man has moved to court seeking to stop the burial of former Kangema MP Tiras Ngahu.
Ngahu, who died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital, is set to be buried at his home in Tuthu, Murang’a on Wednesday next week.
Gabriel Macharia Njoroge, a resident of Kangema, has filed an application under a certificate of urgency, claiming that he holds the original title deed of land parcel Loc/9/Kiruri/459 where the former MP built his home. He accuses Ngahu of acquiring the parcel fraudulently and has listed the deceased’s wife Lydia Njoki as the defendant in the case.
A case on the land in question was filed at the Lands Court in 2017, but it was established that the parcel was subdivided in 1992 before Ngahu acquired it from a third party, hence exonerating him from the alleged fraud.
President Kenyatta mourned Ngahu, who until his demise was a senior director of the Jubilee Party, as a loyal and patriotic Kenyan who was committed to the wellbeing of Kenya, especially the people of Murang’a County.
“Hon. Ngahu has been consistent in his politics. He has always championed the interests of all Kenyans and more so the residents of Murang’a County where he was born,” Uhuru said in a message of condolence to the family.
“A chartered insurer who rose to head the Insurance Institute of Kenya before venturing into elective politics, Hon. Ngahu always put the interests of all Kenyans above his personal issues. Indeed, his contribution to the growth of the Insurance Industry will be remembered for many decades to come as he reached out to many who enrolled themselves for the service,” Kenyatta added.
