Competence-Based-Curriculum (CBC) to be Scrapped if Ruto and Mudavadi Take Power in August

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has vowed to scrap the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) if he and Deputy President William Ruto win the forthcoming elections.

Mudavadi, through a statement shared by the ANC party on social media, says the new education curriculum was hurriedly implemented by the Jubilee administration without wide consultations with stakeholders, terming it a major burden to parents.

“The controversial Competence-Based-Curriculum (CBC) of education will be scrapped once the Ruto/Mudavadi government takes power in August,” reads the statement.

“…CBC was hurriedly implemented without wide and genuine consultations with stakeholders and the new system is a big burden and an academic frustration to Kenyan parents.”

Last year, lawyer Esther Ang’awa filed an application challenging the implementation of the new curriculum, arguing that it was rolled out without proper planning. The matter will be heard by a three-judge bench on February 17th.

Critics argue that the new education system is more expensive than the 8-4-4 curriculum, with many parents and guardians struggling to raise money for books and other requirements.

Last year, Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion termed the CBC as a deceptive curriculum that threatens to reverse the country’s educational successes.

Sossion, who resigned in June last year, called for the suspension of the new curriculum, saying it was being implemented in an unprofessional manner. He claimed that the 2-6-3-3 educational system, which was introduced in 2017 to replace the 8-4-4 curriculum, did not follow all the necessary protocols before implementation.

Copasting American things instead of organic America values is uselessness. A bunch of criminals visited USA and drafted a new edu sys in a hotel room. Zero research. Uhuru makes Moi look so hitec

    • Mr. Collusion you are lost…
Mr. Collusion you are lost. The American education system is an 8-4-4 system but with CBC curriculum. Kids here go to kindergarten/Nursery school for one year then First (1) through Eight (8) grade in elementary/ Primary school. Then Ninth (9) through Twelve (12) grade in high/ secondary school then four years at The University. It is good to know before yapping.

      • Kimei you don’t have to…
Kimei you don’t have to visit anywhere like me to know kenya is just copying anything and everything US is doing. There are debates in the US and just changing a single minor not major laws takes years and a lot of debates. Who makes out what 48 senators and I do not how many governors do? California and Texas are atates and each is bigger than Kenya. How many governors do California has? I think it’s just Newsom. How about Texas? Just one. Senators am not sure but surely not 48 like kenya plus mps. Here in Kenya? Uhuru bribes zile nugu za parliament na sijui senate

  2. @ Mr. Collusion Google…
@ Mr. Collusion Google Academy tells me there is nothing like 2-6-3-3 education system in the USA. 254 crafted 2-6-3-3 trying to be unique but I think it was a misplaced priority and wastage of resources.

    • Agree but if you went to…
Agree but if you went to school in early 2000’s hakukuwa na grades na junior this and junior that. Just like the constitution, Kenya inajaribu copying kila kitu ya America. Jameni, it works in US juu “most” people are law abiding and they know why they made their system the way it is. Hapa kwetu Kenya? We just follow kama wajinga juu ni ya America
