Two Kenyans Charged for Being in Possession of Two Owl Eggs Worth Sh2 Million

Two suspects have been arraigned in court over illegal possession of wild bird eggs.

Francis Lumba and Maina Mwangi appeared before Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku of Loitokitok law courts where they were charged with being in possession of owl eggs illegally.

The court heard that the two were found with two owl eggs valued at Sh2 million at Kimana market in Kajiado County on October 7th.

Testifying before the court, Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) ranger attached to Amboseli National Park Daud Muhammed said he received a report that the two were in possession of the eggs and were looking for a buyer at Kimana market.

Accompanied by a colleague and the informer, Muhammed went to Kimana and approached the suspects while posing as buyers.

After introducing themselves, the officers carried out a search and recovered two eggs, which were then sent to the National Museum of Kenya for analysis.

The two suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to December 20th.
