ODM leader Raila Odinga has formally declared he will make his fifth bid for the presidency in the 2022 elections.
Odinga, 76, made the big announcement during the Azimio La Umoja Convention at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Friday.
“I do hereby accept to present myself as a presidential candidate at the Presidential Election on 9th of August 2022 following the request and unanimous decision by this Azimio La Umoja,” said Odinga in his speech.
Odinga, who also announced the launch of the Azimio La Umoja Movement as his vehicle to State House, said he is running for president to “mold one indivisible nation.”
“I am not running for president to oppose anyone but to propose better policies. I am in this race to mold one indivisible nation. I am not at war with personalities, I am at war with ideologies that would lead this nation in the wrong direction,” he added.
Odinga, a former Prime Minister, unsuccessfully contested for the country’s presidency in 1997, 2007, 2013, and 2017.
He will lock horns with his main challenger Deputy President William Ruto, who is promising to turn around the country’s economy through the bottom-up economic model if he is elected president next year.

Another old geezer like sleepy Joe. At 76 he’s way past his prime. His son should be running.
Only folks who lived in…
Only folks who lived in places where the PEV didn’t take place or know at the back of their minds that he had a hand in the skirmishes but choose to ignore it anyways, shall vote him.
I suggest people (those who didn’t see PEV in real-time like i did) should lookup the 2007 PEV photos by activist Boniface Mwangi and have their light bulb moment.
With Ruto and Raila as…
With Ruto and Raila as options, Kenya is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ruto will probably loot Kenya dry like Moi… But what Raila’s people did with lands docket under Orengo gives me no reason to be hopeful. Not to mention Rao’s fanatics occupied other people’s houses in Mathare North when he was not even president! And, Commander Ruto may have been hauled to court for 2008 PEV, but Raila was the Commander-in-Chief. They both have blood on their hands.
Let’s wait and see. He has…
Let’s wait and see. He has been trying to be the President of Kenya since 1982 when he staged a coup.
40 years is a long time to be trying.
All this time he has used violence. Peace time is on the horizon. Let’s see what how he will deal with peace!!
