Iranian National Linked to Terror Activities Arrested in Nairobi

An Iranian national linked to terror activities in Kenya and neighboring countries has been arrested.

Mohammed Saeid Golabi was captured by detectives attached to the anti-terrorism police unit (ATPU) in Nairobi on Sunday.

The Star reports that police have been monitoring Golabi and his local associates and they are convinced there is a link between him and terrorism activities.

“We have profiled him and his contacts over time. We have enough reason to believe that he has been working with those terror groups,” a senior official at ATPU told The Star.

The man is suspected to be an Iranian intelligence officer and works with some Kenyans to gather intelligence on government and private establishments with the intention of attacking them. His passport shows he has been frequently visiting Nairobi and other neighboring regions and targets both Kenya and Israeli businesses.

His arrest comes in the wake of the recent terror attacks in Kampala, Uganda, which prompted Kenyan authorities to beef up security and remain on high alert. At least five people were killed and several others injured in two suicide bombings incidents in Kampala on November 16th.

Following the Kampala bombings, President Kenyatta called upon security agencies to heighten surveillance and other security operations to keep the country safe from external and internal threats.
