Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has endorsed Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua for the deputy president position ahead of next year’s elections.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Kuria described Karua as the ideal running mate in the 2022 presidential election, saying the country would be safe in her hands.
“People are asking in whose hands are we safe? In the hands of Martha Karua as the deputy president. The rest we are not safe,” said Kuria.
The MP argued that the presidency of any of the leading presidential candidates including Deputy President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka would pose a risk to the country, hence the need to have Karua as the deputy president.
“We need a de-risking factor,” said Kuria.
Kuria said he has been speaking to Karua about the idea and will continue to persuade her.
“It’s a discussion we will continue having, but I have told Martha and she has been told by other people that this is not about her, it’s about this country,” he said.
He added: “I could have proposed myself, but there must be something more than votes. Martha has got the experience that I don’t have. The other reason also, we need to send a message to young girls in this country that you can be what you dream, and by having a woman as the deputy president is a step.”
Karua has maintained she will go for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in 2022 and no presidential candidate has approached her to be his running mate.
“I refuse to be drawn into the debate of the Deputy President because there is no proposal on the table, that is pure speculation. And saying that Mt. Kenya will not have a candidate is too early, there can be a surprise candidate not just in Mt. Kenya but anywhere in Kenya. So, we can say for now we are seeing several candidates for the presidency but that does not mean that the race is closed,” she said in a recent interview.

Martha Karua is too hard headed to settle for second best. Leave that to the likes of Waiguru, Wetangula or Kalonzo who have no shame and will say yes to any opportunity if it gives them a chance to steal more. Furthermore Martha still believes that only she can be governor of Kirinyaga and refuses to accept defeat. Her personality is not suitable for this position
There are over 70 distinct…
There are over 70 distinct ethnic groups (micronations) in Kenya.
Ethnic Group in power since 1963 to 2022
1. 1963 to 1978 – President GIKUYU
Vice presidents 1. Luo
2. Maasai/Goa
3. Tugen
2. 1978 to 2002 – President TUGEN
Vice president 1. Gikuyu
2. Gikuyu
3. Logooli
3. 2002 to 2012 – President GIKUYU
vice presidents 1. Bukusu
2. Samia
3. Kamba
4. 2013 to 2022 – President GIKUYU
vice president 1. Nandi
As we can see, since 1963 to the present, our Gikuyu brothers have either been holding the position of either a president or that of a vice president. No woman from any ethnic group has held any position of leadership in the country. What a shame!
IMMEDIATE SOLUTION:
It is time that our Gikuyu brothers take a break for the first time since 1963 from holding the top or second position in the country.
Tribalism will never let…
Tribalism will never let Africa progress if all people see is tribe in leaders and compatriots That is one thing the Asian Tigers did not have to deal with and thus they left Kenya behind only fifty years ago. Tribalism in Africa looks like a curse that will never go away anytime soon. Tz may be poorer but they don’t have a lot of tribalism. Such a shame. First thing a stranger country man asks is what tribe are you? Quite disturbing.

@ Mjasiriamali:
The late Wangari Mathaai came up with a more objective word to describe the people of Kenya. The word is “micronation.” It basically means that, although we are living in a fake country created after the Berlin Conference, we are composed of unique groups sharing this peace of land called Kenya. The word micronation recognizes the uniqueness of the 70 distinct ethnic groups that make up the current nation of Kenya. Fortunately, the 70 micronations get along very well until during the election time. That is when a few politicians sow the seeds of divisions which end up in senseless killings.
It is time that we remember our African hero Dr. Wangari Mathaai by discarding the insulting colonial word “tribe” and begin using a more objective and neutral word “micronation.”
Our neighboring country to the south of Kenya was lucky to have had a president of vision and profound wisdom. The late Kambarage Nyerere took advantage of a common language (Swahili) which helped forge a new nation of Tanzania. This country has had presidents from the minority ethnic groups with an exception of the late Brother Pombe Magufuli.
Tanzania is made up of 120 distinct micronations. The Sukuma people are the largest ethnic group. They are about 10 million people.
Kenya is made up of 70 distinct micronations. The Gikuyu people are the largest micronation composed of about 7 million people.
How come they (Gikuyu) have been overrepresented in positions of leadership at the cost of the rest of the Kenya people?
1. 1963 to 1978: President: GIKUYU
three Vice presidents: Luo, Maasai/Goan, Tugen
2. 1978 to 2002: President: TUGEN
four presidents: Gikuyu, Gikuyu, Gikuyu, Logooli
3. 2002 to 2012: President: GIKUYU
three vice presidents: Bukusu, Samia, Kamba
4. 2013 to 2022: President : GIKUYU
one vice president: Nandi
Look at the infrastructure where the presidents come from. You will certainly see major differences in development as compared to the rest of the people of Kenya.
The rule of the majority (democracy) has always suppressed the minority members of the community. We need to develop a system where every Kenya can make it to the presidency without taking into account the members who compose his/her micronation.
In Tanzania, all presidents have come from the minority micronations except the late Pombe Magufuli.
t’s time that our Gikuyu brothers take a break from the position of leadership and let other micronations come 2022 take over the position of the president and that of the vice president. It has been about 58 years with the Gikuyu holding three presidential positions out of the total four and being vice president when someone else was a president from a different micronation.
@ Mjasiriamali, it is time that fairness in leadership positions as practiced in Tanzania finally come to Kenya. In addition, it’s time that we include women in leadership positions as other few African countries have done.
