Company Speaks After its Therapeutic Product Burned MP Moses Kuria's Feet

South Korea-based company Ceragem has spoken out after one of its products severely injured Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

Kuria was admitted to Karen Hospital two weeks ago with third-degree burn wounds after his feet exploded after using an electric mat purchased from the company in Nairobi.

The MP said he bought the gadget called Ceratonic Mat through a friend for Sh250,000 to cure numbness in his feet.

Kuria has since undergone three surgeries and is currently recuperating at the hospital.

“This gadget happened to do some slow burning of my feet. I was trying to cure a problem by introducing a killer solution. I went home at night and my feet just exploded,” said Kuria.

“Something that was supposed to be a solution has seen me undergo three surgeries.”

In a statement, Ceragem regretted the incident and apologized to MP Kuria, saying the accident may have been as a result of the politician’s pre-existing health condition that they were not aware of since the mat was bought by his friend.

“We are saddened by what happened. It’s not our intention for our products to be harmful to users. The device was bought by one of the friends to the honorable MP, and we didn’t know prior if he has a pre-existing health condition,” the company said in a statement.

Ceragem’s researcher Martin Mulwa asserted that all of the company’s products are safe and have been approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

The mat is sturdy material with an internally integrated wiring system that provides warmth and heat through coil wires. It is plugged into a socket and can be set on different levels of heat.

Ceragem is a global healthcare company that deals in a range of thermal therapeutic products like electric blankets.

Unfortunatein burned his feet. It needed burn his BRAIN; then one wasteful soul gone.

Surely, ati KEBS…what does KEBS know but hongo? This far the Lord has protected us. There are so many foreign gadgets being sold in Kenya, are the sellers trained to know who can or can’t use the gadget? What happened to contraindication statements on health products? Kenya is a dumping ground….mmeitikia. Thank goodness it happened to a person with a voice… I pray Kuria gets well soon to continue this fight; we need protection and unceasing oversight here.

This dude has diabetic neuropathy!! He has been diabetic for years yet still drinks liquor like a pig frog, uses heat mats, burns his feet coz of his weakened nerves, then blames it on some ‘friend’ who bought the ‘killer’ mat for him. Poor judgement Kuria. Hope your experience stops you from tangs tangaring, MORON! Welcome to the disable list, the ones you despise!

I thought the MPigs’ shs 450000 monthly loot was to prevent these gangsters from such deadly accidents.Thug Kuria rushed to purchase the expensive bracket with the shs 730b.per year loot share without even consulting a learnt doctor who could have advised him otherwise.

Is the company blaming the victim and not taking responsibility for its faults and errors?
    Just a thought!!

    • Imagine. And most people…
Imagine. And most people here are doing the same. His ignorance aside, the company is liable. I hope he gets a handsome compensation to send a loud message to manufactures/importers of sub-standard goods.

      • Manufacturers cannot be…
Manufacturers cannot be liable for your own fault of using the product the wrong way! Did you expect the mat to detect he had neuropathy? Its just like blaming a car manufacturer when you fail to inflate the tires at the required air pressure stated by the manufacturer and they burst causing you to break your legs in an accident. There is something called “taking personal responsibility”. Hii vocabulary haiko kwa wakenya wengi. “Its always someone else’s fault” really???

        • I’ll also say there’s…
I’ll also say there’s something called “Contraindication”..a statement used on medical items listing those who cannot use that product. When I checked this mat, it said ‘can be used by everyone’ and that it has ‘auto cut-off overheat protector’. Unless you know something else, this company is roast….

KURIA, time to milk, sue Ceragem or settle out of court.

    Ndugu Kuria:

Pole sana kwa msiba mbaya uliokupata. Nakutakia kila la kheri Ndugu yangu ili upate nafuu haraka sana na kurudi Gatundu na kuwahudumia watu wote.

You can take the villager out of the village but you cannot take the village out of the villager. This device must have instructions to be read before use. I have used an electric blanket and there was no problem. Diabetics with neuropathy do not sense heat or cold. The Mp should have consulted a doctor before using the gadget. I bet he set the heat to maximum because he has neuropathy.
All the same a quick recovery.

Your comment makes the most sense. I can see a person with the inability to feel heat assuming the machine isn’t working, turning the heat up and staying on too long effectively cooking themselves.
