ODM leader Raila Odinga may have a road named after him if Nairobi MCAs approve a motion sponsored by Minority Whip Peter Imwatok.
Imwatok, who will move the motion this week, is seeking to have Mbagathi Way renamed Raila Odinga Road in honor of the former Prime Minister.
The Makongeni Ward Representative argues that Odinga mooted the plan to build Mbagathi Way during his tenure as Lang’ata MP and Minister for Roads and Public Works.
“We should appreciate deserving leaders while they are still alive [rather than] when they die,” Imwatok told the house.
He added: “It pains me that people who didn’t do anything to impact the society positively are being appreciated more than those who sacrificed including by giving their own life for the good of our country.”
The MCA further indicated that Odinga deserves recognition due to his immense contribution to the nation, saying he fought for democracy, good governance, and the rule of law.
He also cited Odinga’s development track record that saw him appointed as the Africa Union’s high representative for infrastructure development.
Imwatok said Odinga’s handshakes with both President Kenyatta and retired president Mwai Kibaki restored peace and harmony in the country.
This is sheer non-sense!!!!…
This is sheer non-sense!!!! We need to quit “holding our leaders on a high pedestal” when we’ve elected them to do the jobs they’re supposed to do. And if we do name roads/streets after heroes, let’s not forget our freedom fighters, athletes, armed forces and other people who’ve served or sacrificed their lives for the country.
Kenyans we need to wake up!! We need to change!!!!!
Kenyans are major stumbling…
Kenyans are major stumbling block to their development, growth and progress. As a matter of fact, Kenyans are the main reason we have the crooked politicians because they vote for them with their stomaches first! The politicians we have in Kenya is a total reflection of the voters! Things will not change until the negative mentality of voters improve.

No no no no… no way…
No no no no… no way. Instead they should name it Patriot Mjuaji Boulevard. You wonna know why?
1. Am a peaceful Kenyan and have no blood on my hands.
2. I respect all and sundry including Mkenya Halisi, Seneca, Imara Daima, Mundumugo, Maxley, Mugikuyu, Mlachake, Mwororo, justme, Ciro, Morris Menye, Maishomo, to name but a few.

Perfectly ok but wrong…
Perfectly ok but wrong timing. Name it after he retires i.e. 2022 after humble defeat. There are more heroes that deserve recognition too.
Does Mbagathi mean anything…
Does Mbagathi mean anything in any of the languages in Kenya? If it does then, its disrespectful to “retire” the name in favor of RAO.There are “Mbagathians” who love it.RAO, already has many places named after him. He is also in History books. What other honors does he need? And the timing is suspect.
I would also like to remind our so called leaders that there is no better honor than to see the fruits of your labor. When you pay school fees for the poor, when you build hospitals for the poor, when you cloth the poor, when you feed the poor- your name will be indelible in their hearts and that is what counts.Seeing a name on street sign eventually becomes just that a name.
