President Kenyatta has launched the construction of the Kenya National Referral and Research Hospital (KNRRH) at the Kabete Army Barracks in Nairobi.
The top-tier military health facility with a bed capacity of 700 will provide specialized services to the security sector agencies and the general public.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Kenyatta said the level six hospital is part of the government efforts to achieve the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pillar of the Big 4 development blueprint.
“This level 6 hospital will cater to the needs of all men and women working in our security agencies. It is indeed a proud day for our country, for our security agencies given that this is the first project of this magnitude that has been done since the Armed Forces Memorial Hospital was done in the early 1970s,” said Kenyatta.
He noted that the facility will provide quality medical care for security officers exposed to danger in the line of duty.
The president further indicated that the government will be rolling out new health facilities and expanding existing ones as part of efforts to attain universal health coverage.
He also announced plans to launch several other health facilities for the Kenya Defense Forces to serve security personnel across the country.
“Very soon I will be opening a level four facility in Kahawa, and another one in Isiolo. We will begin work very soon, once Kahawa is done, to upgrade the Forces Memorial Hospital to a level five,” he added.
The government will also develop new military health facilities in Eldoret, Garissa, Manda, Lamu, and other areas.
What about Isiolo where…
What about Isiolo where people are walking more than 49 km to go to the nearest dispensary?
Marsabit, Isiolo , Turkana should be the ones getting new hospitals, not mismanaged Nairobi county.
