A Kenyan businessman who went missing eight months ago has returned home.
The family of Abduba Boru Waqo, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances on Christmas Day, could not hide their joy when he arrived at his home in Isiolo on Thursday morning.
On the day he vanished, the businessman had left his meat shop in Isiolo town where he had spent the entire day with two of his sons and brother.
He was carrying Sh35,000 from the day’s sales as he left the butchery for his home but he did not make it and his phone was switched off.
The family spent the following several weeks searching for Waqo in police stations, hospitals, and morgues, to no avail. His first-born son Amos Waqo said the family had almost given up on ever finding their father.
“We had tried several options and visited many offices but were not getting concrete information on his whereabouts,” Waqo told Nation.
“It has been a hard time for us but we always kept praying that we would at least get his body for burial if we did not see him alive.”
When he arrived home, Waqo appeared weak, distressed, and had shaggy hair. The family blocked journalists from interviewing him, saying he needed enough rest before sharing his story.
His son said he was dropped at Maili Saba town, about 10 kilometers from Isiolo town around midnight. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the home and recorded his statement.
