Bishop David Muriithi Seeks DNA Test on Former Lover's Child

House of Grace Bishop David Muriithi has asked for a DNA test in a case where a woman sued him for child support.

This comes a day after he agreed to provide support for the two-year-old boy he allegedly sired with a woman named Judy Mutave.

During Wednesday’s court proceedings, Muriithi’s lawyer Felistus Njoroge said the fact that his client accepted to support the child does not make him the father. Njoroge told the court that the Bishop only admitted to having an on-again, off-again relationship that ended in 2018.

“We seek for a DNA test as my client has only admitted to a relationship and not paternity as the defense has claimed,” said Njoroge.

But Judy’s attorney Danstan Omari protested, saying the application was an afterthought as the Bishop’s affidavit did not raise the issue of paternity test. Omari said the defendant should seek an official court order for the same instead of making oral applications.

Muriithi also requested that the media be barred from covering the case, claiming the woman was malicious and was using the press to disgrace him and sensationalize the case.

On Tuesday, Muriithi said he was ready to provide Sh10,000 as monthly upkeep for the child, arguing that he has no regular income and only relies on well-wishers for support of the church and his family.

Judy is demanding monthly upkeep of Sh100,000 for her son and wants the court to compel Muriithi to pay fees at Kiota School for the boy.

She is also seeking Sh1,000 for salon, Sh5,000 for entertainment, Sh3,000 for utilities, Sh2,000 for the boy’s toys, Sh20,000 per month for food and shopping, Sh35,000 for house rent, Sh11,000 for clothing, and Sh10,000 for house help.

In my opinion, this holy man of the cloth is aware that he indeed fathered “junior” and only changed his mind after discussing his case with his lawyer. I have read harrowing stories of what single mothers in Kenya go through and I do not blame Judy Mutave for taking him to court.
