Eastlands most-wanted gangster Fidel has been killed in a shootout with police.
Fidel, who was the leader of a dreaded five-man gang that has been terrorizing residents of Nairobi’s Eastlands estates, was gunned down by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths on Monday morning.
DCI said the suspect was cornered at Joy Villa in Dandora, shortly after staging a robbery along Mwas Road. He defied orders to surrender and instead fired at the detectives, leading to a fierce shootout.
Preliminary investigations and intelligence analysis had linked Fidel and his gang to a spate of attacks in Nairobi’s Eastlands suburbs, targeting innocent civilians.
A firearm and two rounds of 9mm caliber were recovered from the suspect following the dawn operation
“Two other thugs who were with Fidel at the time of the incident, were lucky to escape the onslaught alive but with their bodies riddled with bullet wounds,” DCI said in a statement.
Detectives based in Dandora are in hot pursuit of the two suspects.
