Eight people have died after consuming illicit liquor in Bahati, Nakuru County.
Some of the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital on Tuesday while others died while undergoing treatment.
Among the eight deceased persons a brewer, a woman alleged to be his girlfriend, and six other men.
Confirming the deaths, Nakuru County Health CEC Gichuki Kariuki said the victims were picked from various locations, with some of them being unconscious.
A nursing officer at Bahati Hospital said the victims were vomiting and complained of stomach aches. More than 10 other survivors are still undergoing treatment.
The survivors are being treated for alcohol intoxication and organophosphate poisoning.
While condoling with the families of the deceased, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri accused security agencies of laxity in their work.
“It is unfortunate that these incidents are happening just a stone throw away from the administrators’ offices and the police station,” said Ngunjiri.
