Man Arrested in Nairobi with Explosives Disguised as Car Spare Parts

Police in Nairobi are detaining a man who was found in possession of a cache of explosives disguised as car spare parts.

Collins Odhiambo was arrested on Saturday while attempting to send the 25-kilogram consignment by bus from Eastleigh in Nairobi to Moyale.

Starehe sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu said the explosives mainly used in quarries were discovered as the parcel was being processed for transportation to Moyale.

The package had been sent from Migori County to Nairobi via a Crown bus and delivered to Odhiambo, who was then required to send it to Moyale as a parcel.

“However, when Odhiambo took them to a Moyale-bound bus company, the crew asked to see what kind of spare parts they were. That was when they were discovered to be explosives,” said Kiragu.

The items have since been sent to bomb specialists for further analysis as investigations continue. Police arrested Odhiambo and confiscated his phone for use in the investigations.

Detectives are seeking to establish the reason for transporting the explosives using public service vehicles and why the senders claimed they were spare parts.

Poor Odhiambo is the fall guy and perhaps those who sent him are Nyangweso and Njoroge.
