Kitale Businessman Shoots Woman After Mistaking Her for Killer Cop Caroline Kangogo

A woman is receiving treatment at Kitale County Referral Hospital after she was shot in the abdomen in an alleged case of mistaken identity.

Phanice Chemutai Juma was shot at Kiminini market on Thursday evening by businessman Ken Muyundo, who claims to have mistaken her for killer cop Caroline Kangogo.

Muyundo, a licensed firearm holder, told police that Chemutai had been calling him incessantly seeking to meet him within Kiminini market.

When he arrived at the market where Chemutai was waiting for him, the businessman suspected the woman was Kangogo and himself as her next victim.

Muyundo, who runs the Iroko Hotel chain, went to Kiminini Police Station at 9:30 pm and reported that he fired a bullet to scare Chemutai whom he believed to be Kangogo.

Police arrested Chemutai for interrogation and established that she had been shot in the left lower abdomen. She was rushed to Kitale Hospital for treatment.

Chemutai told police that she and Muyundo had met at the market a few days earlier and exchanged contacts, prompting her to call him to set up a meeting. But Muyundo insisted they were not familiar with each other and had never met before.

Police said the businessman’s Ceska pistol, a magazine loaded with 10 bullets, and a spent cartridge were recovered and will be used as an exhibit.

Kangogo, a police corporal based in Nakuru, is on the run after allegedly executing two men in Nakuru and Kiambu early this week.

Detectives are still tracking Kangogo, who is said to have trained as a sharpshooter. She is wanted for the murder of Police Constable John Ongweno and security expert Peter Ndwiga.

This story is so convoluted that the truth now may seem like lies. The woman says that she met the shooter, while she was looking for a place to stay to beat the curfew. She did not know him.She says he approached her and apparently wanted some “loving”,and she rebuffed him saying that she was in acommitted relationship. She then felt uncomfortable cause the kept looking at her(probably she looks like the woman killer…)But the businessman’s lawyer categorically deny this claim stating that it was fabricated by the media.
At one point the shooter gives her sh1000,then pulls a gun and shoots her.Just like that…

He should have given a better defense or motive. This will not hold water in a court of law. He should have called the cops on the woman. It seems he is not a responsible gun owner.
