The Nairobi County government has named a road after Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary-general Francis Atwoli.
The road that was previously known as Dik Dik Road is located in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area, near Kenya High School.
Speaking during the launch of the road, Nairobi acting Governor Anne Kananu said the road was named after the trade unionist in honor of his service to Kenyan workers and society.
“You have played a major role in society. Such leaders should be honored. Supporting the community is a big role. Let us keep the same spirit,” said Kananu.
Atwoli thanked the Nairobi County leadership for the great recognition.
“I thank the Nairobi County leadership under Anne Kananu for this great honor and recognition of services to the government of the day, the community, and workers at large,” said Atwoli.
Atwoli, 71, was recently re-elected unopposed as COTU head for the fifth term.
He has served in the position since 2001 when he was first elected as the secretary-general of COTU to replace Joseph Mugalla.
Atwoli received both the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) and the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) awards in recognition of his role in championing social justice.

Some folks dont want,or cannt think for themselves,so they follow what others whom they think are learned,and ape their positions.When you do so, at least be ready to acknowledge when you are wrong.And it does not serve any purpose to insult aperson who holds adifferent view from yours.
