I Want to Leave a Legacy of a United Country, President Uhuru Says

President Kenyatta says he is determined to leave a legacy of a strong, united, and prosperous nation.

Kenyatta said he and ODM leader Raila Odinga resolved to pursue the dreams of Kenya’s founding fathers following their historic handshake in March 2018.

“Odinga and I are focused on leaving a legacy where young people have steady jobs and can access basics needs and become a country where all citizens are proud to be Kenyans,” Kenyatta said on Friday.

He spoke at State House, Nairobi, where he hosted elected Luo Nyanza leaders ahead of his development tour of the region later this week.

“Kenya is about all of us. Kenya cannot succeed without all of us. It needs all of us. This is to me the spirit of the handshake. If it was about two individuals, we would not have reached where we are.”

“It is not about two people rather it is about bringing the country back on track. It is about bringing the people of a nation to feel once again that they are part and parcel of a home,” the president added.

During the meeting also attended by Odinga, Uhuru pledged to continue rolling out projects across the country to ensure all Kenyans benefit from national resources.

“It is to remove the issue of people feeling marginalized, isolated, left out and to encourage a feeling that existed in this country. We want to go back where all citizens will feel proud to be Kenyans.”

Uhuru added: “We want to set out on a path that will take us forward. The destination is to end hunger, ignorance, and disease. We want people who lead us to success and not get us back.”

On his part, Odinga lauded Uhuru for initiating infrastructure projects across the nation, saying it will revamp the country’s economy.

“The way to revive the economy is through infrastructure. I am happy to see that your government has picked up and taken the issue of infrastructure very seriously,” said Odinga.

@3000, every year I visit, Nairobi all the way to my village and some other cities. Infrastructure is more than building a maze of roads and racking up debts we can hardly afford. That’s what I mean. Kenya today looks so nasty and is wasteland as far as I can tell. NASTY, VUMBi, WATER SHORTAGE….the list is endless. I supported him but he has left a sour taste in my mouth. Sometimes we have to call a spade for what it is. The only people smiling are the Chinese. Now what else is new?
