Martha Karua Faults Uhuru for Sidelining Ruto, Says the Two Should Resign

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has faulted President Kenyatta for sidelining Deputy President William Ruto.

Karua, who spoke during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, accused Kenyatta of contravening the law by failing to have a good working relationship with Ruto.

“President Kenyatta should be bringing the nation together and leading by example by having a good working relationship with his deputy,” said Karua.

She added: “He has set a bad example where a president can ignore the constitution and the law and lockout his deputy from work. One wonders then who would want to be a deputy in those circumstances.”

While acknowledging that the two are allowed to disagree on certain issues, Karua insisted that they have a constitutional duty to develop a workable relationship, failure to which they should resign and allow Kenyans to elect new leaders who are ready to work as a unit.

“Previously we had some governors mistreating their deputies. This is completely unconstitutional. The president has joined the bandwagon. It is a bad example. They should be able to agree to disagree, to differ with respect on some aspects but to continue to operate as the presidency,” she said.

“They can both resign and pave way for the elections. They were elected as a unit and should operate as a unit. If the president feels he can no longer work with his deputy and if his deputy has done anything that contravenes the constitution, the only way put is either impeach him or put up with him and develop a workable relationship.”

Kenyatta and Ruto have had a frosty relationship since the 2018 handshake between the president and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In an interview last month, Ruto blamed Kenyatta for allowing people close to him to humiliate and disrespect him.

“Very many deputy presidents are fought. It is an unfortunate situation. Given an opportunity, I would not allow my deputy president to be humiliated the way former deputy presidents have been humiliated and the way I have been humiliated,” said Ruto.

Martha, Martha, Martha,..you have a point, but UHURU and GOONS are busy emptying the Kenyan coffers.
Why don’t you start asking UHURU and GOONS, with you included to stop corruption, murders and looting?
    Please stop playing a saint.

  2. There is a process for…
There is a process for removing apresedent. If politicians think the public is behind the removal of a head of state, they are more likely to vote for removal. There is no shortage of examples among presidential democracies in the last few decades where protests drove impeachment processes. The United States is the notable exception.

The South Korean government impeached president Park Geun-hye in 2017 for abuse of power, but only in the face of relentless protests, known as “candlelight rallies,” which brought millions of Koreans into the streets for 20 weekends between 2016 and 2017.

In Brazil, before the 2016 impeachment of president Dilma Rousseff, there were widespread, record-breaking protests—some attended by millions of people. The first calls for Rousseff’s impeachment, on the basis of perceived widespread corruption, began in March 2015. Protests began soon after and quickly grew. The Senate eventually voted to remove her from office in August 2016. Decades earlier, in 1992, Brazil’s National Congress voted to impeach president Fernando Collor de Mello, also following street protests.

Former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych—who was ousted following a parliamentary vote (which actually didn’t follow the established process of impeachment)—has said he believes it was the protests that eventually led to the political actions against him, and his eventual removal from office. Indeed it was after many months of protests in 2013 and 2014 that the charges of cronyism and corruption were first discussed by the country’s legislature.

As you can see, power is in the hands of the people. As I have said many times on this forum,”where are our social activists”in the midst of corruption, and rotten governance.Massive protests can change all this Martha. You take the lead. That’s how we take out elected leaders who deceived the public to be elected.
