President Uhuru's Kin Fight over Muthaiga Estate Properties
Margaret Gacigi Gecaga

President Kenyatta’s brother-in-law Udi Gecaga and his stepmother Margaret Gacigi Gecaga are embroiled in a fresh battle over the ownership of eight properties in Nairobi’s Muthaiga estate.

This is after the Appeals Court allowed Margaret to challenge an arbitration ruling that gave Udi the right over the properties left behind by his late father Bethuel Gecaga.

The High Court declined to set aside the arbitration ruling that gave Udi the go-ahead to evict his stepmother from the Muthaiga house she lived with Bethuel for 10 years before his death in 2016.

Udi also demanded Sh9 million from Margaret being rent for the duration she lived in the house since his dad’s demise.

Margaret is contesting the transfer of the eight properties to Udi, citing fraud and forgery in the handover of the assets. She argues that her late husband was not in a position to execute the disputed transfers due to his health condition.

Margaret avers that if the arbitration ruling is allowed to stand, it would cause panic to widows, who are left vulnerable and unable to protect matrimonial property.

While upholding a decision by a tribunal on the transfer of the properties, High Court Justice Grace Nzioka noted that there was no evidence that the award was contrary to public policy.

“On the second issue of whether Muthaiga properties were to be considered to be matrimonial property, the Tribunal made its findings. In particular, the tribunal found in paragraph 169 that the properties were purchased in the 1960s and 1970s when the deceased was married to his late wife,” the judge said.

The judge agreed with the tribunal that for a spouse to claim a share of matrimonial property, they must prove that they contributed towards the acquisition and improvement of the property.

Bethuel married Margaret in August 2007, 28 years after the death of his first wife Jemima Gecaga.

Udi, who is married to President Kenyatta’s elder sister Jeni Wambui, is the father of Uhuru’s personal assistant Jomo Gecaga and KICC CEO Nana Gecaga.

She lucked out the properties were purchased before she came into the picture. However her late husband should have atleast left her the house they were sharing.Step son is being cruel by not only evicting her but demanding rent. She has a right to have a roof over her head 10 years is no joke also having to put up with grown step kids who no doubt disliked her seeing how they are treating her now.She may not be entitled to the other properties though .This family already has too much land surely give her something from the stolen loot

      • They did not want him to…
They did not want him to marry (28 years) because they were afraid of what is happening now! Not sure why he remarried for only ten years and at a time he could not sexually perform! Whooopiii!!!

  2. Corruption, corruption,…
    Corruption, corruption, corruption,
Stolen money. Drugs money. Murders and all.
UHURU and family will kill this one.

I had the honour, yes, the honour to work for his papa at BAT…we used to call him BM Gecaga…where he was the Board Chair. The man was respected..I think feared… with that old englishman look..Kiko at hand…kakofia hapo sijui kuficha kipara. It was my first time to see someone take booze asubuhi…alcoholism has no class…whisky shots throughout the day otherwise the shaking…twas sad in a way. Then Noni, the KICC CEO now…a kinda sweet spoilt young brat who’d picked the habit too …would come see the grandpa huko naye amepandisha zake… Dad affair…then I knew, tigutheke… that the rich also cry… Udi was always serious….maybe there was chaos at home and hence the drinking….but we are used to seeing the things…the big cars.. the big academic achievements and the big schools behind the achievements, but Lord, there’s more to “success” than meets the eye. And then it hits one, maybe contentment is what happiness is…

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous”. How those who acquired wealth through corruption once they die their money is wasted going to court and paying lawyers.

    • @Kenya, we all deserve what…
@Kenya, we all deserve what we work for.If Mzee or mama works so hard, and happens to leave the inheritance behind, well and good. But I think we should stress helping children forge their ways though life, and build character, and good work ethics, and fget their own fortunes, than relying on inheritance. But yes I understand that the wealth should be left to those still alive. To me if inheritance is not going to do greater good for society, then its wasted.I would rather waste it myself before joining my ancestors.
So often we see families broken apart, animus toward each other, and even killing for what they did not work for. This is very sad.
So to me , agood man is the one who while alive, take good care of his family.Gives them good foundation on which to build the future.Instill integrity, goodwill to others. And most importantly to remember that what is left behind should not be fought for.Especially if the fighters did not put any sweat in to the accumulation. My two cents.

I agree! A man should never leave debt to his children! He is obligated to leave good inheritance once he is departed! Udi never left and debt! The children and their children inherited wealth! Those talking her are just jealous because their kin’s left them huge debts. And they also took a loan to buy a coffin which put them in more debts!

    • How do you know udi was…
How do you know udi was corrupt? He mad his money working for an international corporation! You guys make weird assumptions too much!

  5. Alcoholism is a major…
Alcoholism is a major problem in Kenya. Most kenyans especially the well off older generations did not know the bad effects of alcohol and opium. They stupidly drunk alcohol as a hobby but it did take the toll on the health!

They all wanted to live a larger life than the mzungu! Colonialism brought a lot of bad things. As you know @ just me, Mzungu brought a lot of evils in Africa!

Africans copied Mzungu’s good and bad ways of life in totality and inherited every bad behavior from Mzungu.

Udi may have thought smoking and drinking alcohol was a cool thing to do then! He had the money to do those crazy things. His first wife was a drunkard too! There could have been serious issues at home to make UDI stay in a foul mood! How come you did not drink along with him @just me? Working for BAT was like a priced possession job in those days! I assume you made your money then as well addicting all kinds of folks with tarred cigarettes!

The little girl over a kicc have battled alcoholism for a long time but she says she is getting better! I still want to marry her; she is damn cute and got some money! I will make her quit alcohol cold turkey. I need a rider too! You can also see Uhuru loves the Booz as well. I guess alcoholism is in the family!

    • Haha @mwenja, you really…
Haha @mwenja, you really want to marry her just because she’s cute? Na hiyo alcoholism..utawezana? Sema ukweli…muny ??? is the driving force.
Yes, I think alcoholism can run in families…but exposure too initiates….God have mercy..

      • @ Just me, if only marriage…
@ Just me, if only marriage was like that, poor people would not have wives…But most importantly, what is Mwenja bringing to the table?…that other men who probably want her as well cannot.

        • @maxiley! What I will bring…
@maxiley! What I will bring to the table will be negotiated during ruracio negotiations. I’m well endowed in my pockets! The pockets are are small and shallow right now but she will make them very deep wish doll because I’m a very hard working dude! She will bet very happy and satisfied in my house! I’m very funny too and that will keep her laughing with me all the way to Equity Bank!

          • Chill out dude! How about…
Chill out dude! How about Nana rejects your off? You are talking like she has already given you a hand in marriage!

I am in the game too! I want her and I will treat her with the old fashion values! I’m the man for her! Astera vista baby! Good bye! It is now me and Nana!

      • I have clearly stated that…
I have clearly stated that she is cute and I want to marry her because she is RICH and she has good connections!

Janet Jackson once said, “what have you done for me lately…….”? I want a chic that can do something for me and vise versa. I do not want to date gold diggers any more. I want a monied gal! What is the problem here? She is looking for a good hard working man!

As fas as drinking too much alcohol, I will keep her busy and very satisfied in bed to dry up quickly. There will never be any Booz in the house!

N/B: I will invite you to the wedding since you worked for her grandpa! How about that?

        • Also remember the singer…
Also remember the singer Jennifer Lopez!? She said that “love does not cost a thing”! Going by that saying, you are in good hands @menja! Keep trying bro!

      • @mwenja has already said…
@mwenja has already said ukweli that he wants to marry her for the money! Is there anything wrong for a poor guy admiring a rich girl?

Women do it all the time! Women marry guys with loaded pockets daily! @menja is very honest and I really like that part about him.

Honesty is the best policy in everything! As for the drinking part, she just needs a good man to walk that part of life with her! And @mwenja has given his solution to fix that part! I think Nana should give this guy a chance!

      • Last time I read something…
Last time I read something about the girl saying she was trying to quit booz. I’m sure she would welcome a clean man in her life! Money is not everything in life. The guy is willing to help her clean up alcoholism! He probably knows the real tricks to help her sober up. It is all a win win situation for both of them! I would take such a guy in a heart beat! He is well intentioned in their plan of life together – for better or for worse! He probably will make a fabulous father to her kids! I say take him money girl!

      • Why are you putting some…
Why are you putting some doubts in this union by trying to make the woman look bad? I thought you and her grandpa were friends? He gave you a damn job at BAT @justme! You are just a friend with some benefits just like this Mwenja guy!

  6. She married a windower I…
She married a windower I mean she did not cause a divorce. The man needed company and she took care of him until the end Udi ran away to USA soon Kenyatta passed on .He should be grateful his stepmother took care of his father . He cannot take away a place she calls home . She will leave that house here on earth when her day comes . but Udi if this satisfies your gut, leave her naked and wait for your turn . every dog has its day

    • Where did you get all that…
Where did you get all that family history @Norah, the nosy guest! Boy you can gossip! What is “windowed”? Are you talking about an open house window?

Hii kizungu ya Mzungu is very tough! But I blame you ushaguu teachers for not teaching proper spelling. I assume you meant “widower”!
