Robbers Break into Mombasa Church, Steal Property Worth over Sh1 Million

Police in Mombasa have opened a probe after thugs broke into a church and made away with property worth more than Sh1 million.

The robbery incident occurred on Friday night at Holy Trinity Church in Africa (HTCA), located in Tudor, Mombasa.

It remains unclear how the robbers managed to execute their mission in the dead of night when police are supposed to be on patrol enforcing the 10 pm to 4 am curfew.

The burglars are said to have drilled a hole through the wall of the pastor’s restroom to access the church hall, where the equipment was stored.

“They only left a few plastic chairs and a bottle of sacramental wine used by the priest during a holy communion, otherwise they would have drunk it all,” said Sharon Atieno, a church member.

Rev. Joshua Owiti said sound systems, including amplifiers, wireless microphones, speakers, consumer units, 10 chairs, electric switches, curtains, and other electric materials estimated to be worth over 1 million were stolen during the incident.

“We are asking police to investigate and bring into book the perpetrators. We are now grounded as a church, we now need help to acquire new equipment because they are very expensive, “said Agrey Onyando, lay reader of the church.

The church leadership reported the robbery at Makupa police station. No arrests have so far been made.

Last month, a bell weighing 500 kilograms was stolen after criminals broke into Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Ngecha, Kiambu County.

“We woke up in the morning and realized it was not there. It’s a heavy bell that weighs about half a tonne. One person cannot manage to lift or carry it, we suspect they were many thieves,” the church organizing secretary-general James Warari said.

Warari indicated that the church imported the bell from its overseas headquarters.

Well well. We wish the church the best. However we must revisit history and find out what was the foundation of most of those churches.
The churches destroyed our shrines; used a gun on one hand and a bible on the other. Most churches stole land and destroyed our spirituality to bring their foreign gods among the locals.
They may be reaping the fruits of their labor. They destroyed what was there inorder for them to exist. They will be destroyed to pave the way for what is to come. (Next).
