Former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex Ole Magelo has died.
Magelo passed away on Friday night while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, where he had been admitted for some weeks.
His passing was confirmed by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, who said Magelo died after a short illness.
In a message of condolence to the family and friends, President Kenyatta eulogized Magelo an outstanding leader who worked hard to make Kenya a better country for all.
“I have known the late Ole Magelo for a long time and from my interactions with him, I came to appreciate his commitment and desire to make life better for others,” said Uhuru.
He added: “He was a gentleman and a sports enthusiast who mentored very many youth people through football to become great men and women in our country. Many remember Ole Magelo for the good work he did as Chairman of Kenyan football giants AFC Leopards.”
ODM leader Raila Odinga wrote: “In Alex Ole Magelo, the Maa have lost a strong and fearless leader who stood up for them without apologies. I have lost a steadfast and reliable friend. Kenya has lost a patriot, a great football enthusiast, and official. May God comfort Magelo’s family and the Maa nation.”
The deceased served as the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker between 2013 and 2017.
RIP Ole Magelo. Many people…
RIP Ole Magelo. Many people remember him for bringing global Mayors to Nairobi in 1999. He was then the Chairman of the Kenya Chapter of the Sister Cities International.
You never hear of this organization now because courtesy of 2010 constitution, we forgot that cities needed Mayors. I hope BBI will bring them back.
A number of people benefited from conference by coming over to the USA and relocating.
