Family Appeals for Funds for Ailing Kenyan Rugby Legend Benjamin Ayimba

The family of Kenyan rugby legend Benjamin Otieno Ayimba is appealing to well-wishers to help them settle a hospital bill of over Sh2 million.

Ayimba, who is suffering from cerebral malaria, has been in and out of the hospital since late last year and was readmitted to the Nairobi Hospital three weeks ago.

“His condition has deteriorated rapidly, and he needs all our help more than ever. We are appealing to all well-wishers to help contribute towards getting him the best medical treatment possible and back on his feet again,” an appeal poster reads in part.

His eldest son Brian says they have to clear the bill before he is transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized treatment.

Contributions can be made via pay bill number 8021673, account name Benjamin Otieno Medical.

During his career as a player, Ayimba captained both the Kenya 7s and 15s and represented the country at the Rugby Sevens World Cups in 2001 and 2005.

He is regarded as the most successful local Kenya 7s coach after guiding the national team to its first-ever World Sevens Series Cup title in 2016, thrashing Fiji 30-7 to win the Singapore 7s.

In 2009, the tactician led the team to its first-ever World Series Cup Final in Adelaide, Australia but lost 26-7 to South Africa.
