Kenya Ranked Among World's Unhappiest Countries

A new survey by the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Solutions Network has ranked Kenyans among the unhappiest people in the world.

The World Happiness Report 2021 released on Friday placed Kenya at position 121 out of the 149 countries surveyed. In 2020, Kenya was ranked at position 121 out of 153 countries assessed.

Finland was named the happiest nation in the world for the fourth consecutive year, followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, and Austria respectively.

Afghanistan was named the least happy country followed by Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Haiti, Tanzania, Yemen, and Burundi in that order.

The report ranks nations based on the gross domestic product (GDP), levels of corruption, healthy life expectancy, social support, and personal freedoms.

The World Happiness Report 2021 focused on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and how people around the world have fared.

“Our aim was two-fold, first to focus on the effects of Covid-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and second to describe and evaluate how governments all over the world have dealt with the pandemic. In particular, we try to explain why some countries have done so much better than others,” the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network said in a statement.

The study ranks the countries of the nations based on questions from the Gallup World Poll.

  1. The least religious nations…
The least religious nations in the world are the happiest. Africans keep multiplying the number of churches, hmmmm

    • And it’s because the so…
And it’s because the so-called Kenyan “pastors” don’t Adhere to or have a Clue of PSALM 133 and it’s Significance. MAMMONISTS is all they want to be. Divided the Fall hard.

      • Pastors are men of God who…
Pastors are men of God who follow the teachings of Christ! What lever you call “mammonistts” is a cult! It sounds like a club of animals that just wanna be! Maybe that the wanna be club you belong to or maybe not! Only you @guest1,2, 3 who knows your orientation!

    • So if I’m reading this right…
So if I’m reading this right, the happiest are the most prosperous, the least religious and also the most egalitarian while the unhappiest are the poorest, the most religious, most inequity, worst safety nets and with the fewest opportunities. I wonder if this means money does buy happiness after all?.

      • It simply means some of…
It simply means some of those who are happy build up their own unlike Kenyans who size up a 16 year guy for getting a Benz during her 16 birthday! I hope you are not one of those who did that and carries all the bad qualities mentioned in that survey!

        • I questioned the need for…
I questioned the need for the public announcement by the dad but as someone who gave his own child a car at 16 and bought another for him this past December, I’d be in no position to condemn an action I see as one of love and caring. I actually think he sets a good example for the younger fathers both in Kenya and abroad.

  2. Yes GDP…Anyway,not…
Yes GDP…Anyway, not surprising to me-just about all the worst ranked countries are populated by black people.Coincidence? Hardly. All I can say is that the diaspora fair much better ,especially economic wise. And those in advanced countries like the USA,UK Germany have a better chance of handling covid 19due to better medical facilities, and quick response to emergency.
Covid19 made matters worse. Before that things were not that good anyway.Corruption and lawless have not retrenched.
We should look at this report for what it is.A wake up call.Acall for action in the right direction. These reports,or studies are good for self reflection as acountry.
And yes Iam mindful of doubters, and naysayers, to whom any news is greeted with scorn and suspicion. To them,I say just because you and your family is doing very well,is not a measure of “national happiness”,and good for you.Happiness indicator goes from red to green when we collectively do well.

  3. And it’s because Kenya has…
And it’s because Kenya has Quite a Bunch of unhappy Hateful Bi$ches and Wi$ches like: Sherri&Kisangi, Rachel&Butiko, Penny&Imbayi, Angatia, Omuga, Osore, Ifetha, Musasia, and Judas?.

  4. This ranking is very skewed…
This ranking is very skewed. Kenyans are some of the happiest, hospitable, kind and generally good people in the world. They are happy with very little compared to western nations whereby people whine and complain while trying to keep up with Joneses. That being said, some Kenyans like to copy western lifestyles and this only makes them more miserable, it’s not a fair comparison. This is a case of comparing apples to oranges. The average Kenyan just want access basics – food, shelter and clothing. Corruption and bad leadership has created a huge inequality in the income gap. Western nations have done a better job of equitable income distribution and created safety nets for their vulnerable populations. As for war torn countries? Yeah, that would be a miserable place to be. Until we have accountable leadership, root out corruption and greed, instal law and order, create proper policing – the status quo will continue. Why do we keep voting for the same families to lead Kenya? Why do we vote for the same tribes? Surely we have more educated and capable young people with leadership and vision for a happier republic. But we love our “wise” wazee. No wonder the results are the same while the happiness scale slides downwards. A good time for every Kenyan to spend time looking in the mirror and deciding how to vote the leadership of the future – or else, the results shall remain the same. There will be enough to go around.

    • I can’t find evidence that…
I can’t find evidence that Kenyans are a happy lot even in the diaspora. I read comments here all the time and what I see are a bunch of tribalist who care less whether they hurt others.

  5. Kenya would be leading if…
Kenya would be leading if they included wisdom/foolishness,(in)security and tribal hatred.Maybe someone bribed the researchers to place Kenya 11th unhappy people. Most Kenyans just woke up the other day and stopped their denial that Kenya is reversing instead developing.

  6. How can we be happy if…
How can we be happy if everything in the country comes from abroad: maize from Mexico, rice from China and India, fish from China, clothes from Asian countries and mitumba from western countries. Furniture, appliances, vehicles and machinery all from abroad. Our elites wear Italian shoes and French cut suits. Even our own SGR is Chinese conducted and operated. They even collect the fair because we cannot be trusted. We’re a consumer society that does not mean a whole lot to the rest of the world. Awakening is what awaits. We even have Chinese fried rice and Kentucky fried chicken in Nairobi. Apparently we cannot cook our own rice and chicken. We let some foreigners take profit back home to cloth, feed and educate their children from the money they make deep frying chicken for us. Foreign insurance companies make a killing collecting insurance money from our motorists and taking profit home. This is not a high tech industry. Just an office with File cabinets and we let them collect money from our pick-up owning farmers and matatu operators and make a profit. Why cannot our own people own insurance companies, make the profit and keep money at home? America puts tariffs against China to protect her people. Why not Kenya First? Good luck my people!

    • @Mwororo, you’ve hit that…
@Mwororo, you’ve hit that nail so hard…. I agree, we means a whole lot to the rest of the world as their dumping ground if their goods and as a harvesting ground of our taxes and resources. Sisi mahabuso bado… God have mercy!!

  7. How can Kenyan’s be happy…
How can Kenyan’s be happy when they are busy carrying the burden of foreign names ( some that they themselves cannot pronounce and don’t know their meaning or origin); the burden of a foreign language and culture. The burden of always running away from who you are?
The burden of a foreign god?
If Kenyan’s want to be happy, its time to put down this burden down and live your life.!!!

    • @ Anonymous,yeap how can…
@ Anonymous, yeap how can they be happy when men and women loath their God given dark skin and lightening it to be as close to mzungus. Not to mention straightening their natural hair to match that of mzungus to whom his is natural as well.Certainly one cannot be happy when they have low self esteem.
To be happy is largely a state of mind

  8. I get tired of these…
I get tired of these murderous wazungus telling us how happy or sad we are! You stole everything from us and now you are thumbing our noses with some silly mad stories!? Bitches!

Go to hell. We don’t need your dirty asses! Nyinyi fisi na Punda milia. We are doing just fine you fools! Hope a bought black bigger did not sit down to write this shitty story!

  9. Guys have all noticed that…
Guys have all noticed that the whites classify everything bad with Africa and Africans! Even now there a new bred of covid19 they say is from south Africa and is supposed to be very bad! Trump says that is what he got form the “shithole” countries! I’m not saying there is no covid19 like the late Magufuli did. But you always wonder why everything good belongs to the white skin, is determined by the white skin, is made by the white skin, they are the most beautiful is they are tall and skinny ass with a massage Pallar Tan, etc! Does this kind of madness make you think a little harder?

  10. How can kenyans be happy…
How can kenyans be happy when the country is divided? When the leader who is expected to tel the truth is lying that he did not promise his support to his running mate? When handcheque is only meant for two principals and not kenyans? When the inua jamii cash to elderly is delaying? When uhunye is adressing the nation using his mother tongue? When price of petrol is being added every week?

  11. All happy countries are from…
All happy countries are from Europe and all the unhappy people are black just ignore the survey and move on black is always portrayed as inferior and good for nothing
