Mwai Kibaki’s private secretary Ngari Gituku has dismissed reports that the retired president is admitted to the hospital.
The Star reported that Kibaki, 89, was taken to the Nairobi Hospital on Sunday evening over “low blood pressure.” “He has been undergoing treatment for the last two days. He is being managed by his doctors,” a source told The Star.
Speaking to a local publication, Ngari said Kibaki, who served as the country’s third president between 2002 and 2013, was not admitted to any hospital. He however indicated that the former president has been undergoing routine medical check-ups. “The retired President has not been admitted to any hospital. But of course, the retired President has been going for routine check-ups,” said Ngari.
Kibaki has kept a low-profile since he handed over power to President Kenyatta in 2013 and is rarely seen in public.
The last time he was seen in public was in February last year when he was driven to parliament to view the body of the late former President Daniel Arap Moi, who died at the Nairobi Hospital on February 4th, 2020.
