The Firearm Licensing Board has revoked gun licenses held by MPs Didymus Barasa (Kimilili) and Fred Kapondi (Mount Elgon).
The board’s chairman Charles Mukindia directed the two MPs to surrender their firearms certificates, guns, and all ammunitions in the possession to the board or nearest police station within 24 hours.
The board indicated that it is monitoring all cases relating to abuse of firearms by civilian gun holders, warning that failure to comply would attract legal sanctions.
The move follows Friday’s directive by Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, who asked the board to withdraw firearm licenses issued to four MPs, including Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, Barasa, Wilson Kogo (Chesumei), and Nelson Koech (Belgut).
Mutyambai directed the four to immediately surrender their firearms to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for ballistic examination.
The four were accused of causing chaos and intimidating voters during the Kabuchai by-election on Thursday by driving around voting stations with vehicles full of weapons and hired goons.
