Ruto: Uhuru Assigned My Duties to Other People But I Still Respect Him

Deputy President William Ruto has insisted that he respects President Kenyatta despite being stripped of his duties.

Speaking in Isiolo County on Saturday, Ruto stated that he has never disrespected President Kenyatta even after he began assigning his roles to other people. 

“I respect the President very much… I have never said anything to the contrary against the president because of the respect I have for him. He has the final say in this Government,” DP Ruto asserted.

He continued: “Even after the roles that I was supposed to undertake as the Deputy President were allocated to others, I have respected that decision because I want peace and unity in the country. There is no competition between myself and the president of Kenya.” 

Ruto appeared to be responding to President Kenyatta, who on Friday challenged him to resign from the government over what he termed as “doublespeak.”

Kenyatta, who spoke in Uthiru, Nairobi, said it was hypocritical for Ruto to claim that the Jubilee government has failed and, at the same time, take credit for its projects.

“…on one hand he is saying the government has failed and on the other hand he is saying we as a government has done this and that development,” said Kenyatta.

He added: “That is doublespeak, you can’t be speaking of the failures of a government where you serve while at the same time outlining what you refer to as we have achieved as a government. You better resign.”
