The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has released its maiden list of shame.
The list released on Wednesday is dominated by politicians led by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who was impeached in December 2020.
Others are MPs Johanna Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr), Simba Arati (Dagoretti North), and Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango). NCIC said the four were named in the debut list of shame for engaging in violence.
Sonko was on Tuesday charged with multiple counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, robbery with violence, and destruction of property.
MPs Arati and Osoro on Monday exchanged blows at the burial of Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi’s father over the former’s attack on Deputy President William Ruto, who was present.
MP Ng’eno is facing charges of hate speech and offensive conduct. He was charged that on September 6th, 2020, he used abusive language in which ethnic hatred was likely to be stirred up among communities living in Transmara.
Speaking on Wednesday, NCIC Chairperson, Samuel Kobia said the agency will henceforth be publishing a list of persons whose utterances or conduct undermine peace in the country. The list of shame will be published every month.
“If a politician or any other Kenyan has appeared on the list of shame more than three times, he or she will be promoted to the wall of shame. We are working with other agencies to ensure they do not hold any political office ever,” he warned.
“We are closely monitoring politicians’ behavior. We will name and shame those not in compliance with the law.”
