Kenyan Pilot Who has Been Flying for 8 Years Accused of Forging Documents to Join Aviation School

A Kenyan pilot has been arraigned in court for allegedly forging a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku on Tuesday, Ahmad Nassir Dirie Olow was charged with making a false certificate for the 2007 KCSE examination, purporting it to be from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

He is alleged to have used the fake KCSE certificate to enroll in pilot training at Ninety Nines Flying School in Wilson Airport, Nairobi on July 30th, 2011.

Olow presented the false document to Lt. Col. Amin Ali, the head of training at Ninety Nines Flying School, according to a police report.

The court was also told that the accused uttered the same certificate to Sergeant Cyrus Ikade on January 6th, 2021, at the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit headquarters at Upper Hill, Nairobi.

Olow pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on Sh50,000 cash bail. The case will be mentioned in February 2021.

On Thursday, K24 Digital reported that the suspect has been working as a pilot for an unnamed company for the past eight years.

He forged the certificate and awarded himself a grade of B+ in order to join aviation college.

  1. The problem is not this guy…
The problem is not this guy its the system. How come the so called Col.Amin didn’t verify if it was fake? If he qualified to be a pilot and has been working for 8 yrs as a pilot ,it does not matter what he got in KCSE. If he got a D that is one person whose doors of becoming a pilot would have been shut.

  2. This case just shows how…
This case just shows how grades in national exams in Kenya are not a reliable indicator of competence. Whatever grade he actually got in KCSE, he trained and qualified to be a pilot, yet he would have been denied this opportunity. So now are they now going to cancel his flying license because his KCSE grade says he is not ‘qualified’ to fly?

    • Yes. The license should be…
Yes. The license should be cancelled. He broke the law and the rules of qualification. The end does not justify the means. Kenya needs to be a country of laws if we are to control all corrupt vices. You need to change this type of thinking and short cuts. Have you ever thought how many bonafide individuals were denied their fair opportunity to enroll in this school and many others because of these KCSE and other document fakers? Think integrity!!!

      • What law in Kenya requires a…
What law in Kenya requires a valid KCSE certificate to get a commercial pilot license?

  3. The thing is this guy…
The thing is this guy operated the planes professionally and harmed no one. The problem is the useless education system that fails people who are very capable of succeeding otherwise. Let the man go and give him his job back. Banana republic kweli. This dude should be an example of what’s possible.

  4. His KCSE grades do not…
His KCSE grades do not appear to affect his ability to fly a plane let him be.This pales in comparison to the fake doctors carrying out abortions and injecting women with silicon and the likes of Ruto who insist on being addressed as doctors after having bought their certificates. If anything he simply faked a certificate this crime has no real victims not like there was a line of bright applicants denied the chance to train as pilots we all know flying school is expensive and is a preserve of wealthy parents who enroll their kids who are still deciding on a career

  5. Guest ought to have finished…
Guest ought to have finished the list of known fake title/certificate holders.Say something about carpenter, murderer “eng” Raila who never finished primary school.”dr”,”bishop”Ngari or Gakuyo,a billionaire conman who never went to school.Others examples are Waititu, wauaji Joho,Kabogo,Sonko,Wanjiru etc.

  6. Why is this matter coming to…
Why is this matter coming to light just now? Is he being black mailed? What he did is a result of a broken ,and corrupt system, and he took advantage of it-to survive. Those who are familiar with Opra Winfrey’s history will note that she lied on her first Job in the media…
Anyway, this is a small fish.Yes some might argue that he potentially put passengers’lives in danger.Well in hind site apparently not.Why is Joho still governor after lying that he got a degree from some university in Uganda?
Right now Athletic Kenya has embarked on a mission to root out age cheaters.Yes agood number of Kenyan athletes have lied about their ages to qualify or get accepted in universities, and collages abroad.Or run for other counties.
Of course Iam happy when cheats, and crooks are apprehended. But this isolated selection of afew criminals when big thieves, and known, are let to continues stealing does not do justice to society, and frustrates efforts to eradicate such vices.
Hypothetically, suppose the fellow had faked his credentials, but became one of the world renown scientists, would that make a difference?
I believe such scams will become rare in future ,as we employ technology to track, and store data. For now we just have to rely on peoples’ honesty, integrity, and fear of the law.
Yes punish him for whatever crime he committed presenting fake qualifications.Fortunately we seem to have a glut of pilots since KA has laid off afew.So his service is not in demand…My two cents

  7. Msemakweli, you are wrong…
Msemakweli, you are wrong. The guy is a qualified pilot. What he needs is just to fly to a foreign country, convert his CPL and continue flying. In any case, Kenya has few flying opportunities. Leave Kenya young man and become a diasporan

  8. Company covering its butt…
Company covering its butt just in case of air crash which is costly if victims discover pilots low edu. Besides company’s reputation. Why did it take so long to find out? Now dude proves low grades doesn’t mean low IQ. Anyone can learn to fly. Just pay

  9. Problem is the system. Shame…
Problem is the system. Shame on the ‘unnamed company’ for their recruitment process! This is some very serious stuff! If this ‘B+ student’ would have crashed the plane and lives were lost, would it be his fault? Wake up people, you got the wrong guy to blame! Time to name this mysterious airline company so we know who else we got there flying our planes! This is some very serious stuff!

  10. What about MP’s who…
What about MP’s who presented college diplomas and never went to college. Are some Kenyans more equal than others?. If we punish one for falsifying a document, then we MUST punish anyone else who have done the same.
