BBI Referendum to be Held in Early April 2021, Raila Says

ODM leader Raila Odinga projects the country will head to a referendum in early April 2021 if everything goes well.

Speaking during an interview with TV47, Raila said the process is moving on smoothly and urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to speed up the verification of signatures.

Odinga asserted that the commission should be able to validate the 4.4 million signatures endorsing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process within two weeks.

He indicated that IEBC has enough resources and manpower to complete the task by January 10th, especially now that the Treasury approved and released a Sh93.7 million budget for the exercise.

“When IEBC was verifying Punguza Mizigo Initiative signatures, they did not hire a single clerk. Now they have money, the process should take only two weeks,” said Odinga.

Last week, IEBC invited online applications for signature verification clerks to arrive not later than December 24th, 2020.

The commission is seeking to hire 400 clerks on a temporary basis to verify the BBI signatures.

  1. Punguza mziko, money was…
Punguza mziko, money was lost or stolen, Okoa Kenya, money lost or stolen and now BBI money lost or stolen. Am not talking about 50 cents here. It’s hundreds of millions. How long are Kenyans getting cheated and milked with these lies that the only pathway to economic success is within these bogus referendums. Why would a government initiate and push for changes in law? Shouldn’t a referendum be a people driven exercise as opposed to a few in the government?
If there’s anything constitution to be undertaken and like always, let the people’s representatives do the changes. They were elected and earning for amongst these jobs.
Already this BBI alone has costed billions since its inception. And yet we still have a call for additional more than 14 billion!
To increase revenue allocation to counties for example does not require a cost of more than 28 billion to do. It either requires referendum paper to be inserted into the general election or just a vote in parliament. Kenyans should be already tired with these crooks.
We need responsible leadership like yesterday!

  2. BBI motive is good but the…
BBI motive is good but the burden it is coming with to a common man is too big to handle even the PRESENT one is too big .What will happen when you pass the BBI the way it is and all those seats and all those political positions you’re creating with it. Women in Kenya have gone as saling kids due to poverty with the present Katiba has created how will life be when you pass BBI the way it is. I think we shall have an open kikomba market for saling kids. If only political job is the only one left in Kenya then the leader ship has lost the vision for the country of Kenya.

Raila is like a donkey pulling/pushing a cart right in front of him! All he thinks is becoming the president with/out the people! I’m not even sure if Raila knows where he is going with the BBI model.

  6. Does Raila really, really…
Does Raila really, really think about the country or himself at the very old age of 75?? Some of the policies the older generations perpetuate are no longer in line with the progressive direction that kenya should be going.

Kenya is at a dead end of crossroads because even the young generations are stuck is the wildness of corruption and self praise!

It is very difficult to understand where the current crop of politicians are taking our country. The destiny is quite fuzzy indeed; seriously very indeed!!
