The Kenyan medical fraternity is mourning the death of senior surgeon Daniel Alushula who succumbed to Covid-19.
Alushula, who worked as a Senior Orthopedic Surgeon at Busia Referral Hospital, is said to have died on Friday at Kisumu Avenue Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
His death was confirmed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Saturday. He was also running a private health facility in Kakamega.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said Covid-19 has robbed Kenyans of a renowned orthopedic surgeon whose services have saved many lives.
Oparanya mourned Alushula as a competent, diligent, and humble doctor who devoted his life to saving lives and serving people.
KMPDU has accused the political leadership of failing healthcare workers in the fight against Covid-19.
“Frontline Healthcare workers are undergoing immense suffering just to access healthcare services, non- remittance of deducted NHIF dues is rampant in most counties,” said Dr. Chibanzi Mwachonda, KMPDU Acting Secretary-General.
