Court Orders Waititu to Present Himself at KNH for Medical Examination After Her Skipped Corruption Case

The court has directed former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to present himself at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) within three days for medical examination.

On Wednesday, Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Nzioka asked the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) to appoint three doctors who will examine Waititu.

The order was made after Waititu missed three consecutive court sessions citing health reasons. 

“A sealed medical report should be presented to a court since the court is unable to comprehend his illness,” the magistrate ruled.

Waititu’s lawyer told the court that his client tested positive for Covid-19 and was later admitted to a hospital. 

On Monday, the prosecution filed an application seeking to have Waititu undergo a medical examination to establish whether claims that he is sick are true.
 
“From the conduct of the accused, it shows that he is not willing to proceed with the hearing. The record speaks for itself. On January 20, an application was made an attempt to impeach the proceedings,” the prosecution said.

The prosecution alleged that medical reports provided indicate that the doctors attending to Waititu are not genuine.

Waititu is facing six charges related to an irregular tender in which the Kiambu County government lost funds amounting to Sh588 million. He denied the charges and was released on bail.
