Matatus to be Banned from Entering Nairobi CBD Starting November

Public service vehicles (PSVs) will from November this year be barred from entering Nairobi central business district (CBD).

The move announced by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is part of the plan to decongest the Kenyan capital.

Appearing before National Assembly’s Administration and National Security Committee on Tuesday, NMS director-general Mohammed Badi said they are currently putting up several bus termini outside the CBD to facilitate the plan.

He indicated that all matatus plying Thika Road will terminate at bus stations located in Ngara and Parklands while those coming from Machakos and Lang’ata will end their trips at Kenya Railway Golf Club.

Badi further noted that the bus rapid transit (BRT) system will be operational by the end of this month. The BRT corridors are marked by red lines with the first running from James Gichuru Road or Waiyaki Way to JKIA.

Line 2 will run from Lang’ata Road to Ngong Road, Juja Road, Komarock Road to Ruiru and will have stops at Dandora, Kariobangi and Gikomba market.

Line 3 will be from Githurai through Thika Road to Moi Avenue in the city centre and terminate at Kenyatta National Hospital. Line 4 will run from T-Mall to Jogoo Road while Line 5 will cover Outering Road.
