Kenyan Aircraft Engineer in Court for Failing to Pay Sh885,000 Bill After Staying in Hotel for 63 Days

An aircraft engineer was on Thursday arraigned in court for allegedly failing to pay a bill amounting to Sh885,000 at a Nairobi hotel.

Moses Adagala was arraigned at Kibera law court where he was charged with obtaining credit by false pretense and knowingly writing a bad check on July 15th.

The court heard that the accused went to Stanjo Karen Suites located in Lang’ata on June 19th in the company of his family and stayed there for 63 days.

The man’s family booked four rooms each going for Sh3,750 per day and only paid a deposit of Sh50,000 when they checked in.

On July 15th, the facility’s management demanded payment for services rendered from June 15th and Adalaga wrote them a check of Sh455,000, only for Stanbic Bank to dishonor it as his account had insufficient funds.

Adagala told the court that he received a Sh600,000 contract in neighboring Somalia after which he returned to the hotel to wait for the money to be deposited to his account. It is not clear what happened to his pay.

The hotel management was forced to detain him, his wife and four children in a single room after he was unable to clear the  bill. The hotel also impounded his car.

Adagala denied the two charges and was freed on Sh300,000 cash bail. The case will be mentioned on October 27th.
